Re: What preamps are y'all liking these days?

Without trying to sound like too much of a grumpy uncle... Elsewhere, a bit of a discussion came up about direct boxes. A couple of the folks have done quite a bit of live sound. What it came down to was a touring band showed up the the REDDI Tube DI, and it really was not a "Night..."/"Day..." diff...

Re: Reco me some loud cans

... The Ultraphones are a little pricey ... and comfort is also important. ... If comfort is taking precedent? Probably have to accept that comfort will probably come at the cost of actually solving the problem that you are describing. There's actual fixes. Just not fixes that come along with comfo...

Re: Reco me some loud cans

The best iso I ever got in "cans" was soundblocking earbuds under home depot ear protection ear muffs. But it's not comfortable. Have a friend who laid this approach out almost exactly. Also not a super expensive thing to attempt. Seems like one could even do a trial run with just a garden variety ...

Re: Reco me some loud cans

Without trying to be judgy? What I see here is a fellow with a "Baffle..."/"Drum Shield..." problem, and not a guy with a "Headphones..." problem. There's some phones that will help with this, but knocking the actual sound coming from the kit down seems like it would go further as far as solving the...

Re: Does the DAW interface I want exist?

On the off chance someone looks through this thread in the future...

This Arturia unit(while on the "Legit Cash" end of things...) seems like it could be along the lines of what was outlined in the initial post in this thread.

Re: The dreaded Pro Tools upgrade

Along the "Own Versus Rent..." line when it comes to the "Heat..." corner of things?

Might be worth looking at Kush Audio.

Re: Fateful recording

Those M80's are HORRID! Agreed. Even the look - light grey rat fur and the not-good red knobs. they were dull but a OK platform on the clean channel, but the dirt and the boost sucked, eh, rat balls At least w/ the HRDX ya got tubes but they were pretty indestructible, and a transportable 1x12" (it...

Re: Considering going back in time with an old MOTU interface

From that thread... Good evening fellas, I know I'm a little late to the party but I just wanted to comment this because it might help other owners of an ASP800 unit: What you describe (Birdlives1955) sounds exactly like an issue I had with channel one or two - I don't exactly remember which one but...

All of that said...

This thread looks kinda familiar, and not in a good way.

Re: Considering going back in time with an old MOTU interface

Agree it could be a clocking issue - I would also try checking your ID22 firmware is up to date and that your Audient ID software is the latest version too. Check whether Audient recommend clocking the ASP800 from the ID22 or vice versa - I have an ID44 and a Cranborne 500 ADAT unit for additional ...

Re: Considering going back in time with an old MOTU interface

With very few exceptions, vintage digital technology isn't desired. Those MOTU boxes are mid grade at best, and when it goes to shit, no one is going to want to fix it. Plus you're asking about Firwire, and completely DEAD spec? You're kind of saying "I've got this brand new car, can I put drum bre...

Re: The dreaded Pro Tools upgrade

(Seriously, good luck working this thing out...) Thank you. It all comes with time eventually. I just need to think out loud here and there for it to get in motion. To say the very least... It's just a drag to see a company literally taking such an antagonistic stance when it comes to a certain per...

Re: The dreaded Pro Tools upgrade

Trading "up" to an 11 year old computer sounds crazy to me. When I started we had to have a console and large format tape machines to work. When I read a post like this I just don't get it. I feel like my advice would be unwelcome but here goes. My advice would be to get the best (supported) comput...
