Re: Hunting for an acoustic...

If you want a big sound, I'd vote for the Taylor Baby.

Re: RNP: Are you kidding?!

I've got the RNP its the nicest piece of gear I own. It has improved my signal chain one thousand percent and I ONLY paid $500. You must own some really horrible gear. Are you talking about a soundcard's mic pre? Taking into consideration that a mackie 24 by 8 can be had for $2,000, "only" $500 for...

Re: RNC settings

I rarely do not use the SUPERNICE setting. Be careful with the release times. On bass, I usually go 8:1 ratio, and reduce about 8 db depending on the bass sound and song. Everything else I usually use a different compressor. On vocals, try the attack at about 9 O clock, and the release at about 2 O ...

Re: cheap eq?

You can find MXR graphic eq's for $50. You can also find the Sharc units at this price, and that will give you a bunch of other features with it. You get what you pay for.

The RNP.

Great for anytime you want lifeless recordings.

Re: RNP: Are you kidding?!

Go fuck your mother. Now that's real constructive. This is your response to someone pointing out your possible conflict of interest(s)? You missed the point. I have found applications for the mackie line, and perhaps other than your endevours in artistic display, you haven't. And by the way, nice n...

Re: C1 on vocals

Yes, the C1 does have that gentle rise to it in the top end, but that is by design. Singing a bit off axis helps if you need it, or a 2 to 3 dB cut at about 8 to 10Khz can also help. The top end sibilance ain't good for vocal apps, but it does sound great on the underside of a snare drum. It does a...

Re: RNP: Are you kidding?!

If I could digress for a second (and with all due respect to Deja V.U.)... As an opinion, I can't tell: I don't have an RNP. As a TapeOp message board-er guy, I think the tone probably just lost someone half (or more) of the potential clients that have read, or will read these remarks (unless you j...

Re: Studio Projects VTB-1 Mic Pre: Any good?

Also, there's a closeout on them at http://www.pmiaudio.com/ for only $117. Hold on there.... We are no closing them out, but we do from time to time sell of demo gear that we have been using at shows that we cant sell as new, but they are no being closed out. Anyway, thanks, the VTB1 is a decent l...

Re: Good Vocal (speech) Mic Around $100-$150

The reason I suggested the SM7 is for it's killer sounding proximity effect. It's clean, and James Earl Jonesish. How's the MD21's bass response when you get real close to it?

Re: Oktava Ribbons

lol...

Star Wars Kid (sorry, I don't have the links), Gunther, and Supagreg should be pre req's here.

If you are going after the RCA sound, the AEA is hard to beat, and only $900 NEW. A very great value for ribbons.

Re: RNP: Are you kidding?!

Fair enough... Not everyone will agree on everything. It's good to hear from someone that actually uses the unit. I used 4 different RNP's over a month's time. Now, it IS possible I had 4 bum units, but if they all sucked on the same power, with the same cables as the other pre's I used, they need s...

Correct, I have not used the old Oktava mics. I have used the ML-52.
