MTR-90 speed issues due to AC?
Is it possible for a modern tape machine (MTR-90 mk2/3 2"16-trk) to have speed fluctuations due to say, the line AC being inconsistent? Can line AC vary seasonally? I tracked a band back in August, at 30ips, and dumped the basics to the computer. There were some unfinished bass tracks, and in order ...

FS: Quested VS2108 active monitors
Amazing sounding speakers, great condition. The NS-10s of England...although they sound WAY better than NS-10s. $2500 firm for the pair, they go for close to 4 new. I'm only selling because I need cash for a vacation and some bills. You can check out the specs at www.quested.com. Located at my studi...

Re: Anyone know how adjust gapless punch-in on MTR-90s?
Thanks Brian...I'll try punching in/out with some tones and see what happens. I think it happens on all cards/tracks...but I move cards around frequently because I have a few that don't record correctly. I am positve it doesn't happen at 30ips thought....very weird. It sounds like it leaves a gap (v...

Anyone know how adjust gapless punch-in on MTR-90s?
Mine recently started messsing up at 15ips....there's always a little dropout or glich when I punch in. It doesn't happen at 30, only 15. I also have an MX-70, and my roomate has an MX-80...and both have clear instuctions in the manuals for this, but I can't find any mention of it in the MTR-90 manu...

Re: WTB: Scully, Otari parts
Yeah, I know, thanks for the advice- but those input modules are like $40 a piece new so I'm trying to find some for cheap. And the autolocator (if they still have new stock ones) probably costs about as much as I paid for the machine. And...I've ordered stuff from Otari before and it usually takes ...

WTB: Scully, Otari parts
Looking for: Scully 280 1/2" pinch roller (doesn't have to be mint but decent condition would be cool) Otari MX-70 parts: I-0178-B modules (I need a whole bunch) and 1" 16 track sync and repro heads w/ some life left. And finally...Otari CB-115 autolocator (or whichever other one will work with my M...

I emailed Mike with the same question a week or two ago, and he said that they'll be making them again in about three months.

Re: Nab or Iec ?
I was under the impression that the only IEC MRLs that had -10db tones were the G320 ones?but I dunno I could be wrong. G320 was some wacky level thing that happened in Germany...and it's deceiving 'cause it's not really 320 nWb/m as you would expect (I think maybe it's actually 290 nWb/m?). But any...

Re: BEST MONITORS MONEY CAN BUY!
Quested 2108s. I would've never been able to afford these new (close to 4K for a pair, I think) but I got super lucky and found them used at GC. Easy to listen to for long periods of time, yet very detailed, you can actually hear the low end, and my mixes always translate. Ask soundguy Dave (where's...

Re: tape dudes, i've got a problem.
I'm no tech but I'll take a stab.... I own 4 Otari machines and they are notorious for their switches (transport buttons) wearing out. The little rubber thingy in there gets dry rotted or cracked or whatever. Maybe it's just a bad stop button? That would be easy and cheap....I just replaced a bunch ...

Re: Cleaning gunk off tape heads....
Jeff Gilman at MDI has been helping me with my machine lately and I bought some of his "Head, Red and Roll Cleaner". I was skeptical at first...I always thought that "head cleaner" was just repackaged and overpriced isopropyl alcohol, but this stuff really works great. It gets dirt and gunk off my t...

Re: audio selector switches?
I just got one of these, no frills but it does the job nicely: http://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?item=COL%2DLS3&off=0 How is that a switcher? Um...let's see, it has stereo TRS line level input jacks (from your console's control room outs), and those are routed to 3 pairs of line level TRS ...
