Thanks Otto. I used 4 mics on the drums. OH, Kick and one on each tom. I shelved the highs on pretty much every one of those mics to cut out some of the cymbals. Obviously my drumming technique needs refinement. It might have helped if I'd close miced the snare, but I always have phasing issues that...

Demolicious

Hi there. I recorded my bands' demo recently and was hoping for constructive criticism of the recording. I like it well enough, but what can I improve in terms of mic-ing or placement in the mix? Just looking for other perspectives that may help me improve. https://soundcloud.com/universalconstantst...

I've been happy lately with either an e602 or m88 about 2 feet in front of the reso head.
The e602 gives me a lot of punchy low end this way

I've also used an omni as heart mic and it gives me a sense of the woodiness of the shell. Cool sound to my ears.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'm thinking it is the mic, but I just haven't had enough free time to eliminate variables. I was in the middle of tracking a band and just setup a different 012 through the same signal chain. I also setup a secondary 012 through another chain for a backup. Didn't w...

Otto, what do you mean by 'how is is wired'? Do you mean routing? It's xlr-trs into the channel #2 insert on the back of the 002. Channels 1-4 don't have the -10/+4 switch. Hogfish, i am using the pad on the mic. I can add an in-line attenuator, but even with that addition, this problem has happened...

If you want that vox tone, go ac15. It's more than loud enough to keep up with most drummers. I've got one and love it. Ac30 is overkill for most stuff in my opinion.
Ac15 pop up on portlnd cigslist all the time for roughly $400.

Mic distorting? Preamp distorting? Something else?

I've had this sort of problem before with the same type of mic (oktava 012). Using it as an overhead and after awhile it will begin to distort. I changed the mic and still had issues. I wonder if maybe it's the digi 002 converters since they seem to be the only constant other than mic type. Oktava->...

100ft snake and preamps

I've been running my mic signals through 100ft snake and then to my preamps. I haven't noticed many problems, with the exception of the occasional channel just not working(i'm thinking it has something to do with phantom power and 150ft cable run) Maybe I should move all my preamps to the live room ...

Thanks for the feedback guys. The ceiling is that soft material that absorbs quite a bit.

I'm leaning toward decent in-ear-monitors. I just need a way to hear my voice well so I can adjust my intonation and sing with more confidence.

Optimal PA setup for basement practice space

I need ideas on how to setup a PA that will primarily carry vocals for band practices. it needs to keep up with loud drums and guitars even when the singer isn't belting. I have always had a terrible time hearing my voice in any circumstance that isn't just acoustic guitars. I need to be able and he...

I recorded a simple singer/songwriter track with acoustic guitar and vocals and some fairly heavy-handed compression on vox. My girlfriend (not an audio person) noticed on earbuds that right before the vocals came in you can hear what she called 'the mic turning on'. it was really just the point whe...

I haven't used the bluebird, but I had an nt1a for about a year.
it's a very bright mic. very bright.
maybe I should have kept it since I have no other mics than come anywhere close to it in terms of brightness. but yeah, didn't do much for me.
