Great info, guys, thanks! Yeah, I imagine that they are mostly "pulls" or are otherwise "voiced"(?) for non-musical applications. I might try to grab some 6L6s for my Twin, though :) Who knows? Maybe he can sell them to hipsters on Etsy or something. Hipsters love vacuum tubes. They make ironic jewe...

NOS Tube Windfall

Hello, All- This morning a work buddy told me about this awesome score he picked up off the curb (bulk trash day, I guess). Among his treasures is an old RCA tube case stuffed to the gills with tubes of varying brands: RCA, GE, Sylvania, International, Raytheon, CBS, and more. I assume this was a TV...

All great stuff... Remember, before you leave - take the van (or whatever) to the nearest service station to get a full tune up - check the fluids, tires, everything. If you have room (make room) keep a couple of quarts of 10W-30 and some of that pre-mixed coolant with you. An extra serpentine belt ...

Great insight, guys - thanks! I might be able to lay my hands on an Ampeg BA115 for a couple hundred bucks...Any thoughts? Is 100 watts enough (in general)? We will play smaller/medium clubs, etc, and as there is (I think) an XLR out on that amp, I'm not necessarily worried about pushing it out to t...

Guitar amp as bass amp?

Hello, all- I have recently been converted into a bass player. I've been playing the ubiquitous guitar for over a decade now and I want to learn to play the bass properly. Seeing as how I am committed to a band now, I must get my gear in order. Anyway, I am wondering if any of my amps will be suitab...

Thanks for all the help, guys! I am unable to check my ipod through my monitors right now because I don't have the appropriate cabling... I really think that my speakers in my car are blown or something, and that I have been listening to music tainted with mud for years now (for a musician and home-...

Checking your mix - iPod bad?

Hello. I am having a hell of a time mixing a simple project for a buddy. Four songs, three covers and one original. The covers are stripped down acoustic numbers; the original is a full-blown thing with drums, bass, etc. I thought I had it nailed, then checked the mix on a cd. Sounded bad. Really bo...

yeah, it's just the one drive. Don't know the speed - I assume my buddy that built it probably just got the most gigs for the money....I will be getting a dedicated drive soon, though! The problem is not evident anymore in my newer sessions. When I navigate around the directory to older sessions, ho...

syrupcore, Thanks for your reply. The machine doesn't have any 3rd party anti-virus stuff installed...the system tray is pretty clean as I have tried to keep clutter to a minimum on this machine. I've had this setup for about two years without incident (until recently, of course.) I have made, howev...

"DAE cannot get audio from the drive fast enough"

Hello, again. I am having trouble with PT LE 6.4 (XP, Mbox1). I am trying to access some old sessions, but when I try to play them, I get a message stating the the "DAE cannot get audio from the drive fast enough" or something to that effect. I already defragmented the drive (which was fragmented al...

PT LE playback (very basic)

Sorry for the dumb question, but I am baffled. The other day I was messing around with my settings in protools (can't remember why) and changed some sort of default. Previously, in the edit window, when I clicked on a waveform the cursor would go to that position and play from there when the spaceba...

Professor, the mic setup was as you described: one at the hole, one on the neck. The timing issue didn't occur to me...

Can't wait to get my copy of "Modern Recording Techniques" so I won't be an uber-moron

Thanks again, guys!

Yeah, I know that some plugs can do that, but I was wondering if there was a way to manipulate the signal while you are tracking...

Nitpicky issue, maybe, but I was just curious.
