Quick and Dirty Grand Piano Recording Advice

Hey, Bit of an odd question as it begins with almost a should I bother? Basically I recently moved to the Czech Republic and in doing so took up Piano lessons. My piano teacher is kick ass and luckily for me he has full access to the Janacek Conservator's study rooms which means I get to fumble over...

Good stuff, it's the exact same sound module as the ION so it sounds great :)

A short note on the design of these pages: I originally tried to use various word processor "convert to HTML" tools to create personal web stuff, but wasn't happy with the look even before converting to HTML and seeing the stuff in a browser. Much more recently I became interested in doing PHP prog...

The Alesis ION is a good solid analog modelling synth that can be had for pretty cheap. I had one for a while and it wil cop the Juno 106 pretty damn well (I know, I know analog purists, please don't hurt me  )

Re: Cascade Fathead Blumlein pair advice

I believe I played an example of stock vs Lundahl on one of the Project Studio Network podcast episodes when I was a guest. It was some time in 2007/2008. Of course, it's mp3 but still you can hear a difference. BTW, you can always have Cascade upgrade them later but, by the time you factor in ship...

Re: Cascade Fathead Blumlein pair advice

The upgrade is worth it, especially if you're planning to use them on sources other than crunchy guitar cab. It makes a lot of difference on drums and acoustic guitar, vocal, etc. The top end is clearer and smoother. Worth it, IMO. I have a pair with Lundahls and a pair with Cinemags?use 'em all th...

Cascade Fathead Blumlein pair advice

Hey, So I have decided to add a pair of ribbons to my mic collection as I feel like they could definitely add an extra set of sounds. I am pretty much settled on the Cascade Fathead pair due to good reviews and a nice price point. I was wondering however, is it worth the extra money to get the pair ...

My moog MZ-104 get's a lot of use like this but it is designed to take line level signals. The rest of the times it is various nasty fuzz pedals and TBH when they are in use it is pretty much for total destruction so there is no wrong way to do it (not that there would be otherwise of course  ).

I dont believe the Chandler units have anywhere near the problems with ambient temperature that you'd find in an old Fuzz Face at an outdoor summer festival (thank god!). Sorry I didn't mean to give the impression it would be a bad thing even if it did. Some interesting sounds can come from messing...

Germanium transistors are more suseptable to atmospheric changes than silicon so they operate differently at different temperatures etc. For example sitck a germanium fuzz box in the freezer for 10 mins before use and you get some really cool decaying fuzz tones out of it. useless post is useless, y...

Jazz III picks are all I use. I am not a shredder or a jazzer but I guess the stuff I play can at times have some intricate picking patterns. Wouldn't use anything else these days. Not tried the ultex ones yet but I keep meaning to. In fact I am going to order some right now.

Does it matter if it is Monophonic? I have a Dave Smith Mopho, massive sounding all analog mono synth with built in arpeggiators. Sounds great and cost me ?170 used. I guess that is a little more than $200 but stuff tends to be cheaper in the states no?

$150 US dollars... yeah, it's about the risk and the cost to fix. Call these guys for a guesstimate: http://www.studiosystems.co.uk/ , they know soundtracs. The topaz and family are quite good mid-tier consoles. Thanks for the info guys. I've flicked a quick email to studio systems so hopefully the...
