And! I've just released a web-based (javascript) version of my ABX/Shootout tool. You can check it out here . It's a free-for-non-commercial use tool that you can put on your web page so that visitors to your site can do ABX tests or shootouts. It has some other fancy features, too. Let me know if y...

Version 2.3 just released! - now you can save/load sets of files/gains/offsets (with absolute or relative paths, so you can save a fileset along with the audio files in the same directory and share your tests with others) - set the play position with its own slider, optionally set the start/end slid...

Interesting. I had assumed that the same kind of imperfections would be present in a cardiod capsule, which if i understand things correctly, is achieving the same kind of thing by opening ports in the back plate and allowing phase cancellation and that would result in similar things (e.g. proximity...

But from what i've learned, you haven't happened upon a new paradigm. Yeah, I suspect this is the case. :-) Besides the contrived situations i described above where it might be handy, it's hard to see it as much better (or even different) then using a couple cardioids. But when/if i do the experime...

Thanks for the response -- my point is just to wonder if there is a functional difference between two cardioids facing away from each other and my theoretical setup which uses an omni and fig-8 (with O+8 and O-8 as the two channels) to achieve the same thing. I'm not trying to get a stereo image of ...

making cardioid from omni + fig-8
(Nerd-out warning; abandon all sense of utility ye who enter.) Question for anyone interested: Back in the day, they made a cardioid pattern by combining an omni with a coincident figure-8. Since the omni hears in-phase all around and the fig-8 hears out-of-phase from the back, the result is that so...

Re: I gotta "bedio", you?
Shame no one replied to this. :-) A couple old spaces for me: the first from ~2005 in the upstairs hall of our shared house. Doing bad vocal overdubs in the hallway takes a certain amount of releasing of your inhibitions, which i think is very healthy: http://caseyconnor.org/images/studio-c.jpg The ...

I used a Tascam US-1641 at my rehearsal space and an ART USB DualPre at home. I would lug my computer tower back and forth. Lately, I've just been carrying my laptop back and forth. I use the onboard soundcard for playback most of the time while at home. I just plug in some headphones and I can wor...

WTB: Cheap, broken LDC mics
Hi -- I need a mic body (or three) for a project... if you have any super cheap LDC-size mics that are broken that you'd like to get rid of, let me know. Thanks!
