A group of producers and engineers here in Baltimore get together at Mobtown Studios from time to time to talk shop ? we like to call it the Baltimore Recording Club. This time we decided to do the Tape Op Shure SM57 Mod in which we remove the transformer. We had heard there was a better bass respon...

that sounds about right. depending on what you are recording, most passive ribbons may need 50-60dB of gain (and may still have levels below an active condenser mic). oh, and congrats on the nice score! Mike cool. thanks! yeah, super stoked! so would setting to a higher or lower impedance change th...

RCA 77-D Impedance Wiring

Hey! I just got an RCA 77-D mic from a friend. Actually for free. Was dumbfounded. But he wanted it to go to a good home. The cable was clipped so I had to rewrire it. My question is what output impedance do I wire it to? I set it to 250 and I need to crank my pre all the way to get it loud. Is that...

Posting the rates only seems to work if you're going to be firm with one rate, which is an entirely different business model. I know studios that pull it off and are happy with the results, but it hasn't worked for me. My exact rationale... On a sidenote, our business totally changed (for the bette...

It's fun to be professional.
It's fun to be on time.
It's fun to watch musicians just play, without having to wait around for setup time.
That's called "Running A Business"

Yet Another Kick Drum Mic Shootout

A bunch of local (Baltimore) producers and engineers get together monthly and hang and talk about records (and drink beer). We decided to do a shootout. It's not perfect and I am sure we are missing mics, but I thought to share here. Hope everyone is well.... http://mobtownstudios.com/kick-drum-mic-...

Pin 2 is tied to ground right at the socket. I would cut this loose and wire a pot in there. Should be pretty easy.
Sounds insanely easy!! Will let you know!!!
