The BL99 was announced on Gearslutz. There were things that were said on one of the videos that the GP2 folks made regarding the product that I took issue with. I put together a lengthy response. Rather than re-post it here, I thought I would just provide a link to it: http://www.gearslutz.com/board...

Here is the link to the pdf with preliminary information: http://www.johnhardyco.com/pdf/JensenTwinServo500Preliminary.pdf I have not ordered cir...

Why don't you call John and ask him what he suggests? What a revolutionary idea! Or, I could answer the question here. The problem is either a dirty/rough pot, or there is a small DC voltage/current appearing at the wiper of the pot due to a small current (the input bias current) flowing from the i...

If the output transformers are installed but not plugged in, there should be a jumper plug in place of the transformer plug, installed in a socket on the p.c. board. Simply remove the jumper plug and insert the plug from the transformer into the socket and do whatever listening tests you desire. The...

So the 990, mm-99, jlm 99V, etc are all essentially the same op amp, which all came from the Forsell design... correct? The "990" and the "MM99" are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CIRCUIT DESIGNS. It was more confusing when the MM99 was originally known as the MM990, but John LaGrou of Millennia changed the ...

The mic preamp in the photo is the original Jensen Twin Servo 990 Mic Preamp which was built to Deane Jensen's specs by the Boulder company. This began sometime in 1986. My M-1 came out in 1987, and I showed it to Deane Jensen shortly thereafter. Sometime in 1988, Deane was having issues with the ma...

- John Hardy M-1 (or 2) if you engage the "high-gain" switch, i think it gives you 84 dB or something crazy like that. i've seen the 4-channel version in action quite a few times. TITS. -ryan The maximum gain of the M-1, M-2 and Jensen Twin Servo mic preamps is usually 60 dB. But I have modified se...

A 4-channel M-1 with all the options is considerably less than $3000, closer to $700 a channel.For a quick reference, the Hardy's go for $1000 a channel.

Re: active vs. transformer outputs
Sounds like it's just the consequence of having a huge pickup. I think you are right. You could do further shielding with steel or copper to see if it helps. There are pickups for guitars known as "hum-bucking" pickups. I don't actually know how they are made, but I will venture this guess: They ha...

Re: active vs. transformer outputs
In a slightly related topic: would putting a 1:1 transformer on an instrument get rid of hum? One of my instruments that has a two foot long pickup is kinda noisy. If a transformer would work, which one would you suggest? Sounds like you have an electric piano or something. The noise is most likely...

Re: active vs. transformer outputs
Most customers that have tried it both ways seem to think that the output transformer option makes things sound "better". Still accurate, but better (various descriptions that say about the same thing). I use the very best of the Jensen output transformers, the JT-11-BMQ. It is not listed on the Jen...
