Re: Digital mixer for live sound?!?!

He's completely right that individual delay and dynamics, and routing are (imho) the best pros. Full automation doesn't lend itself to live sound very well, but being able to save mixes for quick recall if you have a definite set in which the band with is working. I would be interested in having one...

Re: Digital mixer for live sound?!?!

Don't know what you're looking for exactly, but in the past month and a half, I have seen two Yamaha 02R's on not so big (yet international) traveling shows. One was Cirque Eloiz and the other was the Giora Feidman Quartet. While I haven't done any live on a digi console myself, the only thing that ...

Re: Recording a Drumline...Help!

I've considered the possibility of doing a more classical approach in recording with stereo pairs etc in front of them, but for my surround mix I want to have the separation of individual sections for the panning, in some cases (what I have envisioned) is separation of individual drums (esp the bass...

Re: Recording a Drumline...Help!

Wow, how timely. In January I will be recording a drumline as well 10 snares 5 basses 8 cymbals and 4 tenors (no front ensemble). I agree with the above mentioned techniques, but my session will be multitracked and then mixed for surround. So I want to close mike the buggers (not exclusively). Sugge...

Re: Full Sail did it again!

Yes indeed a weird industry. I think no matter where you are... FS, SAE, RW, 2-yr college, 4yr university, or just going into it on your own (which so many people have done) it is ALWAYS what you put into it that counts. I'm pretty sure that all of the students and engineers know what I mean. You ca...

Re: recording bagpipes

there were those funky snares too...don't know what they're called but if it's traditional it's what they use in bagpipe groups...real tight and dry... Mike I used to play drums in two different Bagpipe groups when I was in the northwest. That particular snare sound is because there are snare stran...

Re: Please recommend books to help me learn more about recor

Okay, for something different. I will be starting an Internship in Vienna in October. Never been there before, and they don't teach audio vocabulary in my German classes. So, can anyone suggest a book in German that has a glossary or something that can help me pick up the lingo. Unfortunately, the l...
