as of the newest version of Audacity, it can't be done. if you set up 8 tracks and hit "record", you'll get 8 identical tracks, each with a mixture of all 8 input signals.

I emailed the developers, at the time they weren't in a hurry to change this.

whether it gets thrown out or not, in some localities, it's illegal to tape someone without their knowledge. there's a difference between someone at a protest rally with a boom mic and someone sitting in their car with a not-in-plain-sight recording device, or a recording device that's not immediate...

if you use the earpiece, you can just do one wire to ground, one to hot, and it will work. if you want to use the mouthpiece, you need to add voltage. I have a circuit scrawled somewhere that will make it work, you need 3v, a capacitor and a resistor. if I can find the schematic I'll post it here la...

Gibson Ripper Bass. 50's Gretsch hollowbody electric. Fender Duosonic w/tweed case, dead mint. all lucked into cheap, all sold or traded because I didn't have enough scratch to keep them *and* pick up gear that was appropriate for my thrash band. Ibanez 'lawsuit' explorer, dead mint. worst. trade. e...

I buy obsolete rack mounted telecomm gear. In my case there is a goodwill store near here that only sells old computer stuff, they have all kinds of old awesome 1-4U chassis totes. there's a couple of joints locally, and one annual surplus auction, where I can score all the 1U and most of the 2U, o...

google the Ultimate Boot CD - it's a bootable cd containing tons of useful applications for repair, recovery and configuring pcs. and it's all free.

my first attempt would be to get that, boot, and see if one of the disk-formatting apps will see and work with your drive.

one of my old bands used to rehearse in a warehouse owned by the bassist's dad - it was a two-story open warehouse, with a big loft where we set up gear. so we had about a 20x25 space that was floating in about a 50x60 room, about 12 or 15 feet in the air, under 25 or 30 foot ceilings. we made a few...

you're still a bit unclear - you are recording a punch over the original guitar track. are you saying that when you get to the punch point, all other audio stops playing? what other tracks are there that you aren't hearing? bass, drums, keys, etc? honestly, the way you've written it out, it almost s...

the issue with the transient thing though, is that if you put that on all yer tracks right at the beginning, then sure it's easy to line them up on the computer after the fact, but the problem is they will still drift over the course of a couple minutes or whatever. you know? i think anything on ta...

You could do it with a free program like Audacity, which will record multiple tracks at once... J - have they changed it so that it will recognize discrete inputs from a multi-input device? I still use it as a general wave editor, but last time I looked into it as a tracking program, it couldn't di...

you might check out Tobybear's MiniHost - www.tobybear.de - it's a donationware program (ie freeware with a nag screen) that will allow you to open up VST instruments or effects and play around with them without opening a DAW. it's got a simple sequencer and onscreen keyboard built in, but you can a...
