RCA Studio A in Nashville

I've worked at what used to be RCA Studio A in Nashville quite a bit including Orchestral and smaller String/Horn sections. The design was based on the NYC room. In this photo http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=3172847 You can just barely see the curved walls in the background. I've got other p...

Another thing that often works for me is to make a copy of the Bass track and put a HPF and sometimes a LPF on it.
Then put the reverb on THAT track only.
Sometimes delaying that track is nice as well.

I've got a giant marching Snare that nails the MF tone.
Also got a nice set of Concert toms...try miking the toms from the bottom.

You just need the right Tech. They're still out there. I have an old Keyboard repair guy living just a few blocks from me (Nashville) and I have used several Wurly's that he has made right. It is amazing to play one that actually WORKS. He sets them up so that you can go DI and mic the internal spea...

It isn't very Rock n Roll but it sure makes it easy to turn up the Room mics.
I've done it a lot (yes, with a good drummer).

It could easily be a technical glitch.
What is your setup?

I had an issue once where one of my Busses was getting 'double-routed' to the Speakers which caused me to hear the Left and Right Twice as loud as they were actually being printed (I was mixing in 5.1 so it was a BIG problem)

If you keep your volume low you won't get true ear fatigue.
I get BRAIN fatigue though.

Also you quickly get used to your crap sounds if you keep listening over and over.
I'll walk around the block and come back and can be shocked at what I thought sounded great earlier :)

Often, I end up using 4 layers of Effects: Starting at really short Delay/Phasing Slap Delay SHORT Room Verb Plate You can use these at barely audible levels to create space that wasn't captured on the original recordings. When I have the time/motivation, setting up a couple of echo chambers is amaz...

The problem with recording Drum Ribbons as a Blumlein or MS pair is Proximity. Whatever the Ribbon is closest to will have more low End. You will have loads of Kick and not enough depth from the Toms. The easy solution is to line them up to the Toms and control the low end that way. Adjust the Heigh...

I think that I would use just two mics with one Mic on each Piano about 3' outside of the Lid. You don't want the sound to be too present but the farther away the mics are, you are at the mercy of the sound of the room as well as their ability to 'mix' themselves to each other. Background noise will...

I Was just looking at a schematic for a Fender Reverb (61) Unit. There is a Preamp, weak Power Amp, then the Tank, then another Preamp Stage. The Impedance for the Reverb tank is "Inductive". The Transformers on the Tank have different Taps for different Impedance Loads. There is an 8ohm Tap. I have...

It is a pain.

I've recorded Drums in my current room so many times now that I can do it if I stick one of my usual setups.

Do you have a Wireless remote? Great for this purpose.

Thanks for that Link. It looks like you could drive the input using a Headphone Amp and the Output could be a Direct Box/Preamp or a cheap pre with a 1/4" Inst input. This is interesting...you could get Two Tanks, a Headphone Amp (or Power Amp) and a Stereo Tube Preamp with 1/4 inputs and have a tru...

Reverb Tank as an Aux Send Effect?

Any advice for using a Reverb Tank (not a whole unit...just the Tank) as an Aux effect?

I am guessing a Preamp is needed but would it be on both the input and output?
Would I need to use DI for the return?

Just wanted to clarify my Vienna comment. They would sound great as a pair on a group. It's just that they don't work well in an ensemble situation with other mics. I recently used them with a small vocal group. One try was on Sopranos....sounded great when only they were singing. But when the Men s...
