Listen Chris. I did not write this to upset you. It appears that I did. That is certainly not my intent or the way that I go about living. Please forgive me. I am a lowly jazz drummer from a state school. Everything I wrote down I meant and really I still mean. I won't get in a pissing match on the ...

It's nice to see a thread about swing. I assumed it was about the beatles and I tuned out. I am a jazz drummer. Not only am I into swing, but I am into some of the more esoteric forms of it. I have spent a good amount of my life getting my swing on. Swing needen't be jazz. Swing is basically a style...

If you are after color valley people and MXR dual limiter are what I use like. Both are noisy characterful pieces. Lovely in my book, but I have not spent too much time in front of the great compressors other than a vari mu.

I think the current whargarbl about room treatment is a good trend for mixing rooms. However, I could give a rat's ass about treatment for a tracking room. Some tracking rooms sound good for tracking and others don't. It is often dependent on the instrument, some rooms might sound terrible to track ...

Hello. Just went through this with an upgrade. Look at these cards. http://www.motu.com/techsupport/technotes/pci-424-compatibility I am not saying get motu or whatever, but some people (myself included) did not know the difference between a PCIX and a PCI express. Apparently the difference is about...

8 track recording on a cassette. And are you attempting to type all of these posts on a macbook pro ? Are you wearing parachute pants while you are recording ? Just joking. I would get a tascam, akai, or yamaha digital multitracker before I would go back to cassette tape. But, that's just me and it ...

hello, I don't record other people. I use logic 9.1 with 3 motu 1224s. They are externally clocked and run into a mixing board with outboard delays, compressors, verb etc. I like this setup. This way the DAW just starts out as being tape basically, so if you are an old tape guy like me then it works...

That to me looks doubly ridiculous and seems like it would be a pain in the ass to deal with. One of my favorite things is the guys who try to keep their crash cymbals totally flat, but don't realize that the felts take on a shape after a while and their cymbals actually start leaning away from the...

The Duet sounds pretty good. Are you using the pres on it ? What does your entire signal chain look like and what are you doing ? To tromp the duet I would think you would need to look at a UA product or something that is more than a grand. Maybe there is a better way to improve your sonics. My only...

The Blues Jam

So. Every now and again I get tired of midi tracking and setting up mics and the blah blah blahs of the studio. I yearn to play with and meet musicians. Usually at that point I look up the jazz jam or the blues jam and head down and sign up to play some standards. Yesterday I went to Kentucky and di...

Hey, anyone have pictures of the resonant-head-striking-a-tambourine setup ? That sounds really nice.

That drumset is about the same as mine. Except mine is a 4 piece with a cherry looking finish and the tom is on a separate stand. Mine is done up in 60's k zils and istanbul cymbals.

Jazz it.

I use logic 9.1 . It has guitar stuff in it like amp sims and such. Although I am a guitartist I am not using it for that. Anyways, I think it is brilliant. I would say that on a mac your best choices are likely Logic and Cubase. They are both great. If you are a protools guy than you could go that ...

I remember how the mic modeler software was going to revolutionize the whargarbl world and everybody would sell their neumanns and blah blah blah. That was all over in three months. Anybody using the mic modeling software anymore ? Bueller ? Don't let me spoil the love if you really have it for that...
