a matchbox will enable you to interface your board (if it is +4) with a -10 thing like this dat machine. i've heard that unbalanced actually sounds good if the runs aren't too long.

Re: I changed my mind, Soundcraft Ghost, Amek or Sountracs
uh yeah the topaz. i used one a few years ago and i only remember how crappy it sounded. the eq sucked. the board had a hollow sound to it. granted i was using a dying unit...every couple of days a channel would go bad and get some sort of noise going... get the ghost if you can. the pres are quite ...

Re: Compressor moving my speakers!?
maybe you're kick is creating some subsonics which are being sucked up by the compressor...you may want to try a side chain eq to limit the frequencies affected by the compressor

Re: extracting pres from old shure line mixer
i'm not sure that's what it says on it that it's a line mixer...basically it's 5 pres with one output...i figure the 'line mixing' is the summing of the pres that occurs past the preamp stages

use your discretion based on the type of neighborhood your hotel is in. hotels by nature attract crime so if you're parked out in a dimly lit lot in a bad neighborhood by all means take what you can't afford to lose inside...it is a little bit of a pain, but the alternative is much worse. if you hav...

Re: Audio Technica 4033
seems like a lot of folks have tried it on kick...this has been my 'secret weapon' so to speak...i stick a 57 on the inside aimed at the beater and the 4033 about 8-12 inches outside with the -10 pad turned on...it has incredible low end....i feel like i get a more realistic kick sound using this se...

Re: Tryin' to get a drum sound
just spend a couple of days doing this myself. our drummer's the quintessential purist, but somehow i convinced him to trigger the snare (using his own playing as the sample source) for this recording cause he assaults the hihats like they viciously killed his momma...it's fun when there's a bunch o...

extracting pres from old shure line mixer
i acquired an older shure line mixer recently for quite cheap. upon inspection i realized the pres were transformer based. i've used it as a line mixer and couple of the pres have crapped out, but the ones that work sound pretty good. nothing to write home about but at the same time different enough...

triggers (real/virtual)
hey i have a couple of questions: 1) how can i hook up a drum trigger to my s3000 without purchasing a drum module? is there anything out there that converts a trigger signal to midi without costing like 300 bucks? 2) has anyone had any experience triggering samples derived from the actual instrumen...
