I can't find specific info on whether pin 3 is tied to 1 or if it's floating in that particular cable. To be safe the best bet is http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=Neutrik+NA2FP&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=11041568335877459322&sa=X&ei=KUa4Te-lJYnjiAL5ifE3&ved=0CF0Q8wIwAA# Or just something known to hav...

I know some places are weird about demoing/returning mics, but the best bet is to try and get a few different mics and try them in your room (sorry, typical lame answer but so true...) I'd be aware of the advice to get a hyper or supercardioid mic...while they do have a tighter pattern in front of t...

The only thing you're really losing when connecting balanced to unbalanced is a bit of level, and possible signal interference/noise inducted into the cable that the balancing would normally cancel as it is designed to do. There are a couple ways you could connect your gear. One is get a female XLR ...

Yes it is! As are sawing a file in half, and guessing which of 336 vocal takes your "volunteer from the audience" is thinking of!

Cool, as long as you're not seeing clip lights anywhere in your mixes, it doesn't seem like you're damaging the audio. Party on, Wayne.

What's the mic?
Someone in the comments said AKG D24, which looks to be right, and could possibly the first time a Youtube comment has contained useful information.

4:24 in the video has a sort of close-up shot, looks like it...

If you just want to find out if it's destructive or not, you can always do a phase test. Create/download printed audio of a test tone with a known exact peak level. Let's say -12 dB. Put it on a track. Duplicate the track, so now you have 2 tracks of identical audio lined up exactly the same. On the...

On re-reading his first email to you, I think he's actually offering you a gig in Ohio in July, at which YOU will be singing A Chorus, presumably through Autotune (or Somethin).

Do you find it insulting that he's just ASSUMING you need Autotune (or Somethin) to sing A Chorus?

It feels weird writing about this on a messageboard, but I couldn't let this drop off the page without saying something. It's been staring at me for the last few days. Tal was a great friend and teacher of mine. We worked closely together for 5 1/2 years. I met him when I was a runner at Record Plan...

Yup many plugins cause delay. Sometimes 1 sample, sometimes thousands. If you Apple click (or PC equivalent) on the track's volume display (either mix or edit window), the black rectangle with green writing that will say "0.0" or "-3.7" or whatever, it will cycle between fader gain, peak level, and ...

I don't think the thread is about "Top 10 things you wished you owned." It's top 10 things you do own, that you can't live/work without. I know it's not a wishlist, it's "...where you currently work.". Chris had it right, I haven't had a finite "where I work" for the last 4 years, but everything li...

In no particular order and with no regard to budget or reality.... 1) Memory Man - Used when tracking for super vibey slaps, used when mixing for sweet washing machines. Not bad in a guitar chain, either. I use this thing everydamnday. 2) ELAM 251 - The best sounding mic. Ever. 3) SM7b - The best so...

Does the Heathkit Signal Tracer that can be converted into a little guitar amp count? Sure! That's sweet, haven't heard of that one. Too bad that thread you started fizzled, would have been cool to get a step by step on that blackface conversion with EQ. But it sounds pretty good in that sample cli...
