I'm not sure how well it would do. The technological atmosphere when the 388 was first released was a lot different since it was before the cassette portastudio was available. The 388 WAS the small economical option to home recording. Now with computers I don't know that anyone would really be into...

I'm pretty sold on the idea of getting a 388 or 38 for recording drums and dumping into pro tools. But, I'm wondering, would the 388 have any mojo that the 38 doesn't have when used just for tracking? I think the main difference is the presence of having a mixing console feeding into the tape deck....

jgimbel, you should be able to do the same thing in Cubase. This youtube demonstrates it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2pJya1Nn7M Thanks for posting that! I believe that's one way I was trying to get it to work, but I think for whatever reason I wasn't able to ever hear the processed version al...

Thanks guys! Cubase doesn't allow tracks to be sent to multiple subgroups at the same time. ProTools has the same limitations. As a workaround, you could output all your drums to say, Bus 1/2. Then, create two bus returns (in pro tools they're called "aux tracks") that have Bus 1/2 as the input. th...

My vote would be for the BLA Sparrow. You can get the first generation really cheap right now. I saw one floating around B/S/T for $400. The new ones start at $895. You can also score Myteks, RME ADI-2's, and older 2-channel Apogees for under $800. Any of those would suffice for a higher end mixdown...

Just playing devil's advocate here, but I don't think anyone was arguing that analog summing isn't better, I think most agree on that. It was more of a comment on not-so-forthright advertising tactics. And for the record, I own a Tweakhead 002, a first generation Sparrow, and absolutely love them bo...

To my ears, the synth bass has more subharmonic information than the kick. I usually like it the other way around, but that's just me. HP filters and lowend extenders could balance out those proportions a little better. If there's any reverb on the bass and/or kick, I'd try reducing or eliminating t...

I've been curious about this too. According to their FAQ, "It is our opinion that the "gross" defects in many workstations include internal clipping, lacking dither stages in the DSP processing, multiple format conversions, out-of-control gain stages causing plugins to work outside their intended r...

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me why, hardware aside, Harrison Mixbus sounds any better than any other software. I've been curious about this too. According to their FAQ, "It is our opinion that the "gross" defects in many workstations include internal clipping, lacking dither stages ...

Re: the sound of Pro Tools.
Different recording software may have slightly different summing algorithms, but there shouldn't be an audible difference.lefthanddoes wrote:I'm wondering about what other people have found about the sound of the software
That's where you'll notice variances.lefthanddoes wrote:and the sound of the hardware.
