Jason, thanks for the reply... I see what you're saying, but floor space is an issue here - drums are on a riser, and I'm trying to cut down on adding "yet another stand".
There's also that whole "tom resonance" argument, but this could get OT pretty quickly .

Thanks for the reply (and pics!)... So, if I may, what I'm seeing that I need here is: 1) Gibraltar TSS (Tom Suspension System) SC-GTS 12/6 - For suspending my vintage 12" 6 lug tom. 2) Gibraltar SC-STL2 Heavy-Duty Tom Bracket with Memory Lock (or perhaps the SC-STL4, which is chrome and slightly di...

[Drum geeks] Vintage drum hardware question
A vintage drum set-up question... My studio kit is a maple 5-ply 1965 Rogers Holiday kit, with those funky tom mounts (which, I'm told, were at the time quite innovative - but now are a pain in my rear). Anyway - I'd like to detach the tom from the kick drum entirely (it's a 12" tom with 6 lugs). Ra...

Thanks guys... we indeed played this during the wedding processional, as the bride slowly marched down the aisle. It was a blast to watch a whole theater full of aunts, uncles and grandparents get all weepy eyed to a Sebadoh tune. (And one that's really all about ambivalence to love! it was pretty c...

Sebadoh's Truly Great Thing reimagined as wedding song
Not as dense as it sounds (went over great! we played it during the processional):

RIP "Nashville sound" pioneer Ferlin Husky
Dead at 85. Ferlin Husky, the innovative recording artist whose 1957 smash "Gone" helped usher in the pop-leaning Nashville Sound era, died Thursday... he is best known for his contributions in sweetening the sound of Music Row in a way that allowed the music to appeal to twang-phobic audiences. (Th...

Cubase 6 is here
Cubase 6 was released this week. Lots of new stuff, especially in the multitrack editing area. More here: http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/cubase/cubase6_new_features.html Upgrade price is very reasonable - $149. As a long-time Steinberg user who records lots of acoustic drums, I'm thrilled they...

Richards is an international treasure. I often wonder what space/time continuum we've fallen into where he is still alive and among us. Surely he died decades ago, and someday we're all going to wake up and realize this was just a hilarious dream. Speaking of, did anybody catch the Keith Richards in...

Such a sad story. Looks like this was alcoholism-related. He was monster talented. The City to City record is one of my favorite sounding pop records of the '70s. Would love to hear more about how it was recorded. I can imagine a very different career for Rafferty, where he stayed world famous, made...

[Musical collaboration Web sites] Anyone tried them? Tips?
Has anyone here tried using online musical collaboration Web sites, such as Kompoz, Tunerooms, etc? I'm working on some singles (my own project! you got to make the time people...) and thought it would be fun/intriguing to bring in some new blood via the Net. What I'd like is a Web site where you ca...

Ah, thanks for the clear answers... that's exactly what I'm talking about. I see over at the Avid forum now there are several users disappointed with this issue. Too bad. It also breaks another part of my workflow - always having the mics "live" for monitoring (without adding/enabling tracks in my D...

RME hardware / Folder issues?
Has anyone used the new native Protools successfully with RME hardware? I currently use Cubase, and I'm interested in how Protools interfaces now with RME hardware, and specifically RME's TotalMix mixer app. In Cubase, I just enable zero latency monitoring within Cubase and then do multiple custom h...
