hello i'm looking for an early silverface fender amp ('68-69 vibrolux ideally) in the los angeles area and was wondering if anyone could recommend any shops to check out. i will be visiting truetone in santa monica, and i stopped by the sunset blvd guitar center vintage room, but i'm new to town (ag...

I like it, but his solo stuff, this album included, doesn't really excite me the way mid-period Pavement did. I'm willing to admit it's probably my problem, not his. Guitars sound great, though. And I do love guitar jams, but some of these are a little meandering for my tastes. Reminds me of recent ...

I currently have a 2007 Mustang (made in Japan), and it's a nice guitar that compares favorably to the '66 I used to have. I don't notice much of a difference in tone, playability, or aesthetics (besides the vintage one looking cooler by virtue of its age). Not sure about the Jazzmaster, haven't pla...

To respectfully correct the first post, the hit version of "Rumble" was an original by the late great Link Wray (and his Ray Men), although I'm guessing Duane Eddy performed it as well. I believe Eddy's biggest hit was "Rebel Rouser." Off-topic but worth mentioning: saw Link Wray perform in the late...

on a side note, my current favorite album whose sound i don't care for is Teenager of the Year by Frank Black. The drum and keyboard sounds make me think of ADATs (I don't know how they recorded that album), but all the parts and performances are cool, and what a freaking awesome bunch of songs! On...

Rhythm guitar on the verses (or whatever you'd call the section that starts the song and repeats throughout) could perhaps be louder and a little more aggressive-sounding relative to the drums. Just a thought.

Guided by Voices' pre- Alien Lanes output (that record is still lo-fi but a little less rough than the earlier ones). Propeller and Bee Thousand in particular are excellent records that overcome (or perhaps benefit from) some real amateur sonics. Vampire on Titus is near-unlistenable. The mid-90s-er...

I'm a frequent lurker and infrequent poster but I find this to be one of the friendliest, most informative, and least intimidating boards around. I'm not really invested in becoming part of the "in crowd" (so to speak) but I really appreciate all the detailed information (and comedy) that fills up t...

I like the Strokes. I agree with fossiltooth that they're probably not all that *important* in the scheme of things. They were part of a thing that was already happening, and ended up being part of the public face of it, but that's about it. One way to achieve that kind of vibe is to use a cassette ...

Thanks for the replies! The Vibro Champ does have a 4 ohm speaker, and the Fender Amp Field Guide says this about the Bassman cab: 2 x 12"/4 ohms (8 ohms each in parallel). It's the "8 ohms each in parallel" part that's confusing me. Not sure if that does or doesn't match. Also, what happens if the ...

Fender Vibro Champ thru a Bassman speaker cab? Good idea?

I use a 1968 Fender Vibro Champ for practice/recording, and I'm looking to get a Bassman head & cab for playing out. Having found an affordable late-60s 2x12 cabinet in nice condition, my question is whether there are any technical/compatibility issues in using the Bassman cab with my Vibro Champ (p...
