I would suggest Logic, as its always been my DAW of choice, but I'm not sure how it would run on a 400GHz machine. I've tried it on this computer, a 1GHz, and it got pretty painful at some points, but you could probably manage depending on what you're recording. It runs beautifully on my top-of-the-...

Re: Guitar amp modeling plugin?

The "Guitar Amp" plugin that comes with Logic is thin and noisy, as are all the built-ins and free plgins that I've found. I've been using some plugins that have a little distortion knob, but they really aren't intended for guitar nor do they sound like it. it's just not that classic warmth. So if ...

Guitar amp modeling plugin?

Sorry if there have been topics on this already, but I couldn't find anything with enough information. Anyway, I've always put a mic on my tube amp when recording, but I'm recording in a situation now where that isn't possible, and I pretty much tracked all my guitars clean, hoping to find a good to...

I do think the acoustic guitar sounds a bit thin, and when the rest of the instruments come in it looses intensity, and i can hear only the picking. Thanks for the feedback. The problem with the guitar being thin and lost in the mix is gone, since I got a new guitar a few weeks after finishing the ...

"A Reminder"

I still don't have a finished album, but you can listen to a few songs at either my myspace or garageband. Keep in mind I write all the songs, play all the instruments, sing, engineer, and produce, and these are really my first attempts so don't expect too much. Still, I would love any feedback you ...

Really nice song. My only complaint (a small one) is that the drums don't really mesh with the guitar very well, and it doesn't sound like its played live (of course). But other than that, it was a great smooth blues tune, with a modern edge on the vocals but nice old-school guitar.

Couldn't download it, got a "free server full error" But about the signal/noise ratio, yes there are ways to try to get rid of that at the mastering phase, try a very narrow band EQ on the frequency where the noise is, just make sure it doesnt mess up the sound. Also make sure your compression isn't...

I don't know anything about specific mics, but I'd really recommend installing iPod Linux if you want to make good recordings - I'm not sure if this is true anymore, but the Apple firmware used to cap at a low bitrate, and iPL allowed you to record at better settings and have control over your level...

Relatively cheap and small, still easy to overdrive:
Peavey classic 30. I know these aren't really respected, but I love the vintage tube sound you can get out of these even in low-volume situations like yours.

Don't go crazy over being off by 10 cents. Try experimenting with ways to make it sound ok when you're out of tune instead of trying to get it perfect (e.g. rythmic/ spoken vocals, "drunken" vocals)
