How can it be a C-12 clone with that capsule (non chambered, center terminated) and circuit? This mic might have a nice character, but a rebranded export mic with a few better quality new tubes does not put it in the league of the C-12.

I think you're in the position I was in about five years ago, with budget pres wanting to step up a notch. I've got almost every flavor you could want-SCA N72, A12, J99, good tube stuff-it's really fun having all that variety on hand. The biggest difference I hear using quality pres is during mixdow...

I don't know if there are any other better options for the money than the Pelusos. As far as transformers, there was discussion at Prodigy Pro about this, and most of the guys there either couldn't find a suitable replacment, or didn't think the original was too bad by itself. There are posts over t...

SCA has an active DI kit that's pretty cheap ($79 for two channels). I've got one, works great.

I really wish I had the guts to try the tube mod, but I'm afraid I'd totally screw things up. Your build looked great!

idealfreedistribution This might be useless, but I did a comparison of my 603 with the stock cap and a CK-1. A pretty large difference. Thanks for the post, defiantly NOT useless, what was your signal chain? and what mod did you do? Signal chain was the MXL-->Seventh Circle N72-->UA2192 The mod tha...

The Cinemag 2480 is know for its almost "boring" qualit. Similar to the Haufe model it was modeled after.

The BV11 adds girth in the mids and lows, which might be what you're going for.

The BV11 definitely has more character. Don't know which I prefer though.

Dan, I'd do a lot of reading before I tried this procedure. Remember the Neumann U 47-one of the most expensive and sought after mics ever-has a 3 layer mesh grill (as do the U 67 and U 87). On the other hand the AKG C-12-another classic- has a one layer grill. There's a good chance that taking the ...

Don't have the Chameleon unit, but I'd use a Carnhill vtb9045, which is what is used in Neve clones (and the new Neves I believe) today. You can get them at Audio Maintenence Limited (you can also get an output transformer, and inductors for the EQ). The Lundahls are nice but I think would give a cl...

No cicuit change was made. The cathode follower is still in place. The only possible component value change that would be different from this standard circuit would be the value of C8, and it's sandwhiched between the two circuit boards, so I can't really tell. C4 (capsule to tube) and C8 (tube to t...

It is an older model CM-47. It's in the skinnier CM12 style body.
