The amps are fairly lackluster Just to shed some light: the majority of their amps were already sold in one big lot to Sonic Circus sometime around 2007--2010. Not sure of the exact timeframe, but I happened to be spending a lot of time in and around their headquarters in VT during that period. One...

2013 video interview with Brendan O'Brien
It's so tough to find anything on this guy, thought someone else might appreciate it.

Not a ton of technical stuff, more business/personal relations, but still fun to see the guy talk for 20 minutes.

You're overthinking a very simple situation. They hired you to set up microphones and turn knobs, and you did just that. You shouldn't feel bad that their musicianship isn't up to par with your skills. Those major headache sessions are worth it early on, because you learn a lot in the process. Tune ...

Bay Area studios w/ a strong Americana/Bluegrass discography
The subject says it all: I'm looking at heading out to the Bay Area in January to do a record over about a week with an established Americana act. There would be five band members for basics, then we'd overdub strings and horns later. We'll need a great sounding live room with good iso options and g...

There's no accounting for taste, but I think you're nuts. That record sounds awesome! Definitely not muffled, to my ears. Not sure what you're hearing that doesn't sit right? Can you be more specific? I've worked in the same room (Fort Apache/Camp St---RIP), and I would say that they basically just ...

Digitech RDS 900, Ibanez DMD-2000, Peavey Ultraverb, and of course... Space Echoes. Resurrecting an old thread here. I was just visiting my folks up in MA, and found an old DMD-2000 in the eaves of the house; haven't even thought about this thing for maybe 15 years. At first glance, it appears to b...

Another vote for the Otari. I'm a former owner of an MTR-90. The punches are in fact smooth and easy, and it does indeed require relatively little upkeep. I'd also hate to use a machine without a transport! I will say that the sound is definitely different. The Otari has a softer, gentler sound, if ...

A really sensible thing to do would be to enroll in a school's music program with great job/internship placement. The two that immediately come to mind are the Clive Davis School of Music at NYU and the Berklee College of Music in Boston (who offer a fantastic online curriculum). I would say enroll ...
