do you have the split they did w/ Commit Suicide? that's really good too. and if you haven't already, check out Commit Suicide. my favorite grind band. they track everything live together (to tape i think) with no triggers or anything. "Human Larvae (earthly cleansing)" is one of the heaviest recor...

Piano pedal squeak
I feel like this has to be a topic already, but I just did a couple searches and didn't come up with anything. How do you guys avoid getting pedal squeaks/bumps when you're recording piano? I work in a theater and was recording christmas carols this afternoon for some play or another (joy to the wor...

Misery Index - Dissent awesome. a very close 2nd to "Overthrow" IMO though. all the stuff they did with Kevin Talley on drums is unstopable. just got the newer one, "discordia"... blegh. pretty boring. drums sound aweful. has it's moments, but doesn't measure up to earlier stuff. it has less of the...

i bet your drummer doesn't need all that extra crap... Hmmm. Define extra for me please. Just had a drummer in with a fairly large kit but tightly setup. He had 3 rack toms and a floor tom. They got used in three out of 9 songs and when they were used is was very, very sparingly. Most of his work w...

Re: HOW DO YOU SURVIVE AS A TOURING MUSICIAN?
My question is where do they make money? ... Therion ... ...are a European band and are apparently unable to tour in the US anymore because they don't make enough money here. I guess the lesson there is find your market and stick to it...maybe? Well they just finished touring the US last wee...

Overhead spacing on a (relatively) big drumkit
So, my band is going to start getting ready to self-record a few songs (hopefully an improvement over the awful quality of what we've got now); I'll be playing with mic placements and stuff sometime in the next week, just to see what we can do with what we've got. I was wondering if there was anythi...

Personally, I'd never buy a low(er)-end guitar (especially a new one) without playing it first. One of the big things that you pay for in a higher-end instrument is quality control. Some $200 guitars are absolutely amazing but often the exact same model sitting right next to it isn't, whereas a $100...

I like the X on the grill idea. That makes a lot of sense. The reverb was digital and the delays were analog, and I do have the feeling that the reverb specifically was a contributing factor; my uneducated guess is that the speaker just couldn't quite handle the combination of the really heavy rever...

There was definitely some honk present when I placed my ear where I was putting the mic, but it was nowhere near as bad as what the mic was picking up...my ear told me "midrangy", and the recorded signal almost sounded like a car horn at times (the part I was recording was clean w/a lot of reverb an...

Eliminating honkiness when recording 8" guitar speaker
Hi there, first-time poster, long-time lurker. I was just recording some incidental/between-scene music for a play, and because only a couple simple little 2-minute things would be electric, I figured it'd be better to use a small amp than to lug my rack setup + 2x12/1x15 down to my house from my ba...

I was actually about to ask the same question, only regarding the Motu 8pre vs the M Audio Delta 1010. I'm essentially just looking for the best sound (subjective I know), the most flexiblity (in terms of analog ins/outs and MIDI ins/outs), and the least latency. I know the latency is totally depend...
