Light bulb regulations now are progressive. In the 1920s, not so much... I would accept your argument above if longer-than-1000-hour bulbs gradually faded from the market due to lack of demand (though there'd still probably be a niche market, as I said to Chris above). But apparently, that's not wh...

Thanks for the soothing tones ubertar. I'm still not sure if this is the right place to have a conversation about lightbulbs. But if you really want to continue, All I can offer you is some essential information that I think both you and the film are missing. Like I've already agreed, incandescent b...

Ubertar -- I'm sorry to say that a lot of what you've written here is either poorly researched, self-contradictory, or just plain untrue. Just for starters, it appears you're confusing incandescent bulbs with modern CFL and LED bulbs. The former last between 750 - 2,000 hours on average, the latter ...

in order for a processor manufacturer to improve a processor, they must eventually change its architecture. A given architecture has a limited upgrade path. This isn't planned obselescence, it's just engineering and physics. That's a reasonable point, which directly contradicts Justin's assertion t...

Jegler, thanks for the follow up and clarification. It's much appreciated! Honestly, I think a lot of this comes down to confusion, much of which may not be your fault at all. According to the Waves website, the minimum requirement for version 9 is a "Core Duo" processor, which is Intel: http://www....

Hi Wes, The best place to send these kinds of editorial comments is to Larry's email directly: http://www.tapeop.com/contact/email/larry-crane Hopefully, this conversation here will draw more attention to the fact that this word is becoming far too loaded to use in any context. But the truth is that...

Doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong to me vvv! Keep on doing what you do. The only "us" vs "them" for me on this issue are people with a conscience and people without. People who respect others, and those who act self-entitled. People who take a broad and balanced view of the world, and t...

You don't see a lot of professional studios complaining about iLoks. True. I plugged it into my machine and haven't thought about it since. That's about my experience with it. Except that now I use a laptop that's more powerful than my old desktop ever was, so I do unplug it from time to time. That...

All that is fine and good. The one thing that I think it's fair to add though, is that you can demo fully functional versions of iLok stuff easily. Usually for 15 days. Hell, you can even rent them too, which I think is kinda awesome. The only time I've ever been mad at iLok was when I broke mine. A...

Oh, okay. I wouldn't know - I don't usually look for cracked stuff. The OP said that he had downloaded pirate copies, since his bought copies didn't work, which made me assume that it had been cracked. Yup. Anything on iLok 1 has been cracked. That's why iLok 2 exists and the OP is screwed on his o...

... When the pirates finally do crack this one (and go back to exploiting the hard work of the developers who make the tools we rely on, profiting on those tools for themselves via ads for porn and penis pills and even human trafficking) yeah ok. whatever, man ... downloading cracked softwar...

Customers shouldn't be punished for other people making illegal copies. If there are pirate versions, which don't require iLok, then clearly iLok doesn't work to deter piracy. Therefore iLok is a stupid idea. Sorry jharvest, but this is simply not true. Do your research. ILok2 is as of yet uncracke...

Only you can choose whether you're going to be a sociopathic jerkface and steal from small pro audio developers. In fact, services like iLok only exist because of piracy -- Not the other way around. Also: You don't need iLok to authorize Waves products. Waves has it's own license manager you can use...

Yeah, what Tony said. It's like a super-dark, very syrupy vintage-style reverb with a super-long predelay. It almost sounds like there are two "taps", so it could be that the reverb being fed by some kind of more flexible delay, rather than just the predelay on a reverb. I wouldn't be surprised if i...

I'm not doubting that. Those "song poem" players had skills too.

I'm just wondering whether (intentionally) worthwhile art often comes out of that kind of arrangement.

You tell me!
