The last I heard, he was bogged down in porting his stuff over to AU, and there have been rumours that he had a private emergency. I would go ahead and pull the trigger if you're inclined. There was a recent thread about this on KVR. The people who recently bought plugs have received their emails pr...

Does it really matter about the quality if you just using the 'through mode' operation? I really have no reason to use normal, or half-normal. I just want a way to hook up my cables to the back and patch everything through the front. I tested out a behringer patch bay a few months back when I was th...

I've never had any trouble in my personal studio (because I refuse to use them), but I've been in places that did have problems. I always make sure that they are off. Also, if they get broken, you have to deal with not only the mercury that's in the bulb, but the white phosphor powder which is actua...

And just to be clear, there is no difference between a 12AX7 and a ECC83 tube?

ECC83 is just the phillips-mullard standard, but it's the same tube.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I don't think this guy means EV or Electrovoice, but instead Electro Harmonix or EH. EV never made tubes, but EH did and still does. As for the best tubes, that JMP will sound its best with some Mullards, whether you splurge on some originals or buy some repops, Mullard is THE classic sound of Mars...

Why would you want to replace the electro-voice ones? I don't think EV actually made tubes, so they're probably made by someone else and rebranded. EV is an American company, so the tubes were probably manufactured by another US company, like RCA, GE or Sylvania. Nothing wrong with those. I should ...

Who should I buy my 12AX7 tubes from?

I know that they all sound different, but are there companies I should avoid buying from because of bad build quality? I know this is subjective, but is there a reference resource for how each companies tubes sound? I looked, but couldn't find much. Is there a standard 12AX7 tube that most people us...

You could apply this line of reasoning to ANY piece of gear that is used for recording (or otherwise, I guess)... Of course there is a difference, whether you care or not is up to you. Anything in the chain, no matter how tangential (like a clock source) , will make a difference. whether it is subj...

Thanks for the responses everyone. That is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. While I assumed some of it, I couldn't back up my assumptions with any resource on the internet. I'm always dealing with the 'diminishing returns' aspect of gear. My Agile les paul copy cost half of what my...

Is there really a difference in graphic eqs?

I've been looking at getting a graphic eq, but I've noticed that the prices vary a lot between the Klark Teknik and the Art graphic eqs. Is there really a difference between them? What about the Alesis MEQ-230? Does it all come down to build quality, or are there fundamental differences in the way t...

eBay started keeping the names of bidders private to stop scammers from scamming them after the auction. that's what all the astericks are about. they're real people, don't worry. Ahh.. that makes sense...I'm a conspiracy freak..sorry:) Conspiracy freak? Maybe not. There are sellers out there that ...

Does Reaper have automation? I looked over the site quite a bit and didn't see it mentioned. Did I miss something? If it doesn't have automation, how can anyone take it seriously? I downloaded the user manual and checked it out. There is indeed automation. The only problem I really have with the pr...

I've learned to keep my mouth shut about items until I actually get my grubby paws on them at a good price. It's one of the things I love about the buy/sell forum here. I've grabbed some really good deals for way cheaper than I could have on ebay. I'm really into synths, so I've watched the entire m...
