I was searching for Elliott Smith threads wondering if Larry Crane had spoken about working on any of Elliott's stuff recently. Haven't found anything like that - if someone knows I'd really like to know. Anyway, streaming this while I'm doing other stuff and there is definitely some cool stuff. The...

I already was aware of needing to back up everything, but when I was looking into external hds they were already not listing Win98. Then life happened and I keep going and working day to day, etc., then wammo. Why are you a musician if you are afraid of people hearing your music? Hard to say. Are th...

Years of Recordings Possibly Lost?

In 2000 my parents bought me a computer to use for college. Before too long I acquired Cakewalk and an SM57 and began recording original songs on it. I think it was around 2008 that I inadvertently downloaded a Registry Key. My computer started running slow. This computer used Win98SE. It worked per...

Another year and no news of Mark's final recordings.

I was saddened by the loss of Trish Keenan of Broadcast early last year.

I was happy to read recently that her partner is working on putting out a record with what they were working on before she passed.

Someone recently mentioned IAWL as one of their favorite records, so I got it back out. Also going back through a lot of 2010 records including Dark Night of the Soul. Came to this thread via a short youtube clip of Mark playing pump organ. Has there been any statement as to whether his family will ...

Wes Scott music (friend)

My friend self released an album recently, so I thought I'd help spread the word some. I'm quoting his post on the At Ease board: Hello to my friends at atease. I released my first full-length album on Friday. My influences include The Beatles, Jack White, Beck, Radiohead, and Elliott Smith to name ...

i went to MTSU for 2.5 years. with school starting back it reminded me of the hassle of trying to book your studio times...........that was not fun. i ended up not finishing my recording degree because i would have these 3am sessions all by myself and would have no clue what to do. it was frustratin...

I've read that the Beatles loved Pet Sounds (and didn't Paul even pay for an ad for it in a magazine or something?).

Has anyone ever thought Lennon might have subliminally taken that ascending 3 note part in Imagine from Caroline, No?

about Nels - i've never been one much on wanking solos, but in this case, as stated in interviews, it was Jeff who actually pushed him to do it - he left parts of songs open and told Nels to solo there. Nels, on the other hand, said he likes Jeff solos and tries to encourage him to play more. Jeff h...

I believe I've read that Elliott double tracked his vocals just because he preferred that sound to using reverb. Also, I know he liked the Beatles, so I'm sure he was probably trying to sound like Lennon sonically. When I first heard Elliott I also thought maybe that he double tracked all the time b...
