I've used an AKG C 414 B XLS on my tenor and bari saxes and have to say I like the sound quite a bit. Know this is out of your price range but figured good to know as an option for when you do have more money. Here is a sample I did with a whole section recorded on that mic. http://www.youtube.com/w...

Re: RECORDING STEREO! Twin AKG C214s or Two Blue Dragonfly M

Buy another AKG 414 XLS, and IGNORE your friend's advice. He's on crack. The reason Blue mics are cheap now is that the company WENT BROKE and got bought out by someone else. That's the real reason. The AKG 214's have only ONE pattern (cardioid) so they're not as useful. I personally do not like an...

RECORDING STEREO! Twin AKG C214s or Two Blue Dragonfly Mics?

I was all set to buy a Stereo Matched Pair of AKG C214's to record stereo. I have had an AKG C414 XLS already and like it so this seemed like a logical step. But then, a friend told me to definitely not do that. He said that recently, Blue dropped the prices with their Dragonfly mics and that I coul...

Thank you Ipressrecord for the link for the mic for sale. That was obviously very helpful. So unless we want to open this up to Elliott Smith recording techniques and gear, which would be a fascinating discussion, or even continue discussion on Langevin CR-3A, I will say goodbye and thanks again to ...

What is Elliott Smith using?

Here is a link which has a video of Elliott Smith using a microphone for the recording of his album Either/ Or. If you have some time to kill, could you let me know what mic he's using? Thanks!

I appreciate everyone's comments. This is all great input. Just curious, I haven't seen any mention of blue mics listed here but in person people have told me they're great.

Thanks Joninc for replying. To answer your questions, (1) the music I am making is miles apart, varies from track to track. Mixture of Beck, Portishead, Elliot Smith, Motown, and goes on. (2) Yes it does have to be protools (3) I think a condensor mic is more of what I'm looking for just because tha...

$2,000.00. What Should I Get?

I want to set up recording vocals. I basically need three things: (1) a microphone, (2) a protools set up like the mbox, and (3) a good preamp for the mic, maybe with a chanel strip. I know there are monitors, headphones, cables, etc. which I will get, but for our purposes here, let's not throw that...
