I agree that you should just build or buy a talk box but it might be interesting to see how close you can get with a formant filter plugin. (This is essentially what your mouth cavity is doing in the hardware version.) You'll probably spend more time on the automation of the filter than you would be...

I just got a SM7b as well and have been considering preamp options. Please post some results and thoughts when you've got them! I've seen a lot of talk about running thru a "clean" level lifter (cloudlifter, etc.) before the pre for the SM7b. Any credence to that? I'm sure it depends heavily on the ...

I am part of an extremely apathetic group that does some ambient black metal. (We probably only get together once or twice a year!) One of the other guys has created some very cool textures by attaching contact mics to metal plates (and other things) and then dragging them across various surfaces (c...

Could probably do it for just a couple bucks and a handful of parts, especially if you don't need a "trigger level" adjustment. Pwr supply (9V batt maybe), dual op-amp, some passives, a couple diodes, and a relay would be all you need. If you need to adjust the trigger level, you'd need to add a com...

Portamento time and on/off are standard MIDI control messages. (See http://www.midi.org/techspecs/midimessages.php). Control number 65 (cc65) is portamento on/off. Set to 0 for off, 127 for on. Control number 5 (cc5) is the portamento time. 0 is slowest, 127 is fastest. Not all patches are programme...

My guess is that this is a straight-up AC motor and modulating the voltage won't change the motor speed, just the power. You would have to replace that motor with a DC motor or a stepper motor, or an AC/DC mechanically commutated motor etc. to control the speed. Leslie-owners and motor gurus, please...

Have you updated the firmware and/or drivers for the firestudio? I'd check that and get your box current to see if that makes a difference. If you only have one A/D device hooked up to logic/garageband you should not have to think about the clock. You should also take a look at the chipset of the fi...

I've just recently had a similar situation using the ProRMP (passive) reamp box. I'm sure you can find the thread if you search. I went through pretty much everything you have described here and ended up re-tracking the guitars with a mic'd cab. The DI tracks thru the reamp just wouldn't hit the amp...
