the A/Ds on an mbox2 (or 001 or 002 or 003) are not too good. you'll certainly hear a difference w/ a high end converter, it'll be like taking a blanket off everything kinda in terms of treble and the bass will be straighter probably. i just switched from an 002 to a lynx aurora and love it. it's $3...

Checking pre-mastered mixes on stereos
[This is likely already addressed elsewhere, if you know about it don't get up in a huff, just reply w/ the link, thanks.] I'm curious how you all deal w/ checking a mix and trying to envision it mastered. I.e. if you check it in your car stereo or whatnot, do you toss a limiter on? a mastering eq o...

How did they get this REVERB sound?
I know there's plenty of reverb advice on here but it's also general and often hard to know what kind of sound the person commenter has in mind. So... Does anyone know/have good guesses on how the reverbs were done on the following albums? By "how" I mean roughly what kind/setting, whether a using o...

let's try to define
WARM: acoustically speaking means that the lows in the reverb last longer than the highs (at least that's what some acoustics books say)... not having brittle highs or being spitty... lacking severe transient spikes... PUNCHY: a powerful, quick transient sound often characterized by a controlled/sho...

Did your mixes contain fades on the master track? if you use PT's master track, the effects are POST-fader so it sounds all weird if you do a fadeout. Like the transients of the drums will stay full volume (cause the limiter just keeps them from clipping) while everything else turns down if the limi...

affordable EQs
see these websites in NO particular order: 1) tritonedigital.com (smooth analog-ish for cheap, nice guys) 2) rogernicholsdigital.com (frequalizer= phase linear, more for mastering and "snapshotting" i.e. it can copy the EQ off a reference vocal (say you're comping from different sounding takes) and ...

EXPORTING PROBLEM!!!
I recently got hip to this debate too. When I use an Aux as the master* though and then record it's signal into a new stereo track the export option is always grayed out. What gives? *(not supposed to use master channel cause the effects are "post fader" i.e. tone changes continually during a fade i...
