I'm big on SG's, the current standards are generally "OK" in my opinion, I like fat-ish necks, and the high frets with rounded ends. I don't like: The pickups are at an angle to the strings due to the pitch of the neck and the pups being in a flat scratchplate, the bridge slug-coil is maybe 2-3 mil ...

Alright sticklers. I think we have a semantic issue here. You're all focusing on the word "phase" when you should be focusing on the words "boombox surround sound". How come you don't automatically understand what I mean? Stupid internets. PS - Hey Marc, are you in a new spot now? Heheh. Fact remai...

True, but it's the harmonics above the fundamental that localize the sound. If it's burried, not a such a big deal.
Headphones - then panned bass & drums do drive me a bit mad.

Properly implemented M/S has the side mic panned left and also panned right but out of phase, no? That's the phase crazy I'm talking about, not the difference between the two mics. It does, but you don't get to hear it as being phasey, unless you mute or reduce the M signal below the S. As I unders...

Yes, Altiverb probably sounds different than Space Designer, but for $500 it would be advantageous to at least experiment. AFAIK, this would be down to the IR's themselves, and the added functionality of the specific plug. I.e. If the same IR is loaded into two plugs and used without further proces...

Sorry, just have to comment... The Cheese machine, whilst a fine free string/pad VI, shares little with a solina string machine's architecture or sound. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember that it uses PWM with a polyphonic synth engine - so one can patch something very similar in a conv...

Just one thing. In the case that your cable run is short, and there is little EMF near the devices, the pseudo-bal cable could be fine... You lose 6dB (because you're no longer summing 2 signals), but don't forget balancing circuits are "added" on to ins and outs of what is internally unbalanced equ...

Looks good to me. Here's to hoping it's not buggy. Not buggy? That would be interesting, but would be a first IME. There will be those who suddenly decide that they just can't go another day working as they did with the previous version, personally, I'd wait for their screaming and wailing to die d...

Am I wrong or did they completely skip tuning the capsule? They made it seem like you can just plop the mylar on the backplate, screw it down and you instantly have a capsule. Mmm, I wonder if the diaphragm is tensioned correctly in that discarded former(?)-ring before installation? Interesting tha...

Yep. You'd have to have a point for the second mic where all frequencies were exactly out of phase with the first. Impossible in practice. Take just an 80Hz bass frequency - (I think) that would require over 7 foot between mics. Every freq above will cancel at progressively shorter lengths. Flipping...

The ratio of the impedances of two connected devices will affect the sound.
The general rule nowadays is to have the mic (or whatever) impedance lower than the pre (or whatever).

RodC just posted this link in another thread.
