i've assisted in or recorded in about 12 different studios from El Paso TX, to San Francisco.
It's always super interesting to see how they do stuff(micing techniques especially).
I don't like to be that guy who's asking a bunch of annoying questions so I just watch and listen.

i always keep the dolby on. I thought it "colored the sond" at first too, but i got used to it. It would be a total bitch to try and get that noise out after the fact.

Drew, if you had the manual for the 388 you'd see that it's a major pain in the ass to align, and is not like aligning a 2" machine at all (which I find easier) ANyway, i have a 388 and usually load up the 8 tracks as much as I can, dump it (all 8 tracks seperately, but at the same time) into pro-to...

are you talking about that growly sound in "Holland 1945"?
They use alot of fuzz on the bass and Robert mixed it so bad ass and it has such a great cohesive sound. Plus, like jay said it does sound like it's SLAMMED to tape! You should read the Apples in Stereo article in the TapeOp book.

looking for wierd noisemakers, analog stuff, digital, I don't care. Any juno's? Something cool. Anything around 300 bucks. It's for a gift.
