Christmas Time Video

Video I made for my holiday song "Christmas Time." A punk rock Christmas song with a glockenspiel solo. Song mastered by Scott Craggs of Old Colony Mastering in Boston.

Try putting a condenser mic in a corner, high up, and turned around BACKWARDS--facing the corner. Very cool drum sound, with massive amounts of low end.

I always track drums with a room mic and sometimes vocals.

use the 57 as a paperweight to hold down the pile of cash the band's paying you.
Every time I try that with a 57, the mic rolls off and the cash blows away.

I've been recording demos for a band in the drummer's living room. About 12x 24. We put the drums and singers on opposite sides of the longest part of the room, facing each other. Bass amp on one side, turned down as low as we can handle and DI'ed; two guitar amps on the side facing the bassist. No ...

I have that same LaCie hard drive and I love it. Been using it for recording outside of the studio with the laptop.

Oh, I get it, he didn't want to be scene any where near that Samson mic. Oohhhh SNAP! I have one of those Samson mics and it works just fine on vocals, guitar, and--yes--as a room mic for drums. I usually put up at least two room mics (13x17 room, wood walls, carpeted floor) and that gets me the ma...

I've had 4 Western Digital drives fail on me in the past two years. They were kind enough to send me free replacements, but 2 of those have failed since then. No problems (so far) with LaCie or Seagate.

Eminence has a 12-inch speaker called the Kappa 12 that I've been using for years in a 2-12 bass cab. 450 watts and sounds great.

I've had glorious success with two Neumann 184's and a True preamp.
+1 on that! I love my Neumann's! Great on acoustics and overheads for drums. With a smaller mic you can move it around easier and really pinpoint the sweet spot for certain acoustics--all the shimmer and none of the boominess.

I put all brass pins in my Epi and it definitely made it louder. And brighter. If that's the sound you're going for. And I liked the look.

Back in the nineties my band used to host what we called "Record Breaking Shows." Fans would bring in old vinyl albums (usually Styx, Journey, Abba--stuff like that) and we would smash them on stage. Our drummer, E. Mitchell (R.I.P), would mount a few of these on his cymbal stands and smash them as ...

In my older studio I had a drummer check out my studio to see if it was big enough for his drum set. At the time I was recording in a 13x11 room. The guy had a 9-piece set with a gong, 2 kick drums, rototoms and lotsa cymbals. He walked in, took one look at the room and said "Nope. Not big enough," ...

analogue recording and digital recording are both electronic means of capturing and storing representations of sound pressure changes. +1 and then some. let's compare cd to a vinyl record. the vinyl record stores physical energy, the limitations (in terms of how much bass you can cram in vs how man...

please explain to me how "analog is energy storage". I was wondering that one myself. If you touch your tongue to the tape will it shock you? I have no problem with anyone using tape to record with--if I could afford it I'd have a 24-track Otari and racks of analog gear. I love the way tape does a ...
