I know it's a more intense console than I need, but it's available from a friend who just wants it to be used so it doesn't sit in storage. As far as the AC goes, I am planning to build a new control room next to the HVAC. I have an enormous tracking room (2k square feet) and much of it is not being...

How do I incorporate a Neve VR-60 console w/ my modest setup
Hey folks. Longtime troll, first time posting in a few years. In March I moved my studio from my house into a commercial space in Edwardsville, IL. I have a pretty non-elaborate setup (gear list at http://birdcloudrecording.tumblr.com ). Echo Audiofire 12 into an iMac using outboard pres. I have a Y...

Does anybody want to buy Pinback's Distressor?
I was checking out gear on eBay and found this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/EMPIRICAL-LABS-EL8- ... 4cf57fc756
It appears that Armistead Smith (aka Zach Smith) from Pinback is selling his Distressor.

Considering I'm still a rookie (been recording for a scant 4 years), I've got TONS of mistakes to share. Here's one of my favorites: I was doing my first session in months at my home studio and I had completely re-done the patchbay without troubleshooting it. We were getting drum sounds and I just c...

At this point I'm thinking of doing something of that nature in my tracking room. I have a few boxes of 703 that have been staring me down while I figure out what to do with them. So I'm thinking of alternating the triangle diffusers with squares of 703 to alternate the dead/live aspects of my room....

@SoftSupply - That's exactly the kind of thing I'm thinking; the ghetto version of something way more expensive. Is there anything I need to concern myself with about the placement? Wondering about making a panel trap like described on Ethan Winer's site with the "ghetto skyline diffuser" on the fro...

I have a bunch of wooden triangles
Hey board,
I have a few dozen wooden triangles, about 4x4x5.5 and 2" thick, leftover from a house project. I was thinking they might be useful to make a diffuser of some sort. Anybody have any suggestions or other ideas? Just seeing if there's anything fun I can do with them.

Making connections - preamps, AD converter, XLR and 1/4"
Hello, folks. My setup involves an Echo AudioFire 12 AD converter which only has 1/4" inputs. This hasn't been a problem because my current entry level preamps (Presonus, Behringer) have XLR ins and 1/4" outs. BUT I am wanting to upgrade to a Sytek preamp w/ XLR ins and outs, no 1/4" option. So I ha...

Bass-heavy mixing room
Hello board, I have a home studio and a set of Mackie HR824s. My room has really weird bass response. Whenever I'm sitting at the standard typing/mouse using position at my computer, there is a huge bump in the 160-250 Hz range. If i take a few steps back, that disappears but the 80-125 Hz range tak...

WTT: Mackie HR824 for Yamaha NS10
Yo,
I've got a set of Mackie HR824s, but I think I'd like to trade for NS-10s, preferably with a power amp. Let me know what you have or email me at ryanwasoba@gmail.com if you're interested.

USB to Firewire adapters?
I have a laptop computer that has 4 usb ports but no firewire. I have been using a firewire Alesis interface on my desktop PC, but it just crashed and isn't worth fixing. I rigged up an emergency backup that involves a borrowed M-Box, and I am enjoying it but soon will be needing to record more than...

Thanks for the tips. I've tried a few things with polarity reversal, i'll give that suggestion a shot. I'm not expecting anything perfect. The purpose of having the acapella is that some friends and I are trying to put together a band where we play the backing music to Michael Jackson songs along wi...

Making an acapella track from a recording
I'm about 80% sure that this isn't possible, but does anybody have any ideas about how to take an original recording and eliminate everything but vocals from it. Basically, how to make an acapella track from an original recording. Can this be done?

Mackie HR824 with the amazing silent woofer!
I bought a set of HR824s on Craigslist for stupid cheap, and when i took them home one of the woofers was out. I went into the situation knowing that something like that might happen, taking the deal with a grain of salt and knowing that, even if i had to replace something, i'd still come out on top...
