Besides the triple tracking, the thing that makes the vocals sound so huge to me, especially on "outta yer mind" is the fact that there is nothing else taking up that space. You hear that grimey bass hit, then it's just pure crushing vocal. It's all relative, so imagine if the instrumentation were t...

the most reliable triggers are the ddrum triggers that actually screw on to the drum.. the sticky triggers are cheap and suck.. if you are looking for a brain, i would also go with ddrum. I had the brain and triggers for a couple of years. it literally took me a whole week to set the triggers and in...

Buffalo Trace is good bourbon.
I'm taking the tour of the Buffalo Trace Distillery later this year.. and yeah.. it's hella good. Have you tried the Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream yet? I'm not sure if they have released it outside of KY yet, but it kicks the crap out of Bailey's

It really all depends on the style of metal being played. I record death metal in a completely different way than doom metal. Faster metal needs a smaller room for drums. It's almost all close mic'd and generally one mono room mic. Guitars are done through smaller amps. Ribbon of choice on the grill...

I've spent alot of money on my studio, but not nearly as much as I've spent playing in bands since I was 14. And the studio at least pays for itself. The bands never have

For some reason, I actually LOVE the Black Album. It's not as evil and fast as the first 4, but I really enjoy the fact that they decided to let the songs be songs instead of trying to cram a ton of riffs into one song. Yeah, they went "kaching!!" but more importantly, I see what they did as packagi...

I would look into getting a ribbon or two. They have tight patterns to minimize your reflections, and your banjo wont sound like a metal snare drum full of nickels...unless of course it IS a metal snare drum full of nickels.....wait...I just had an idea... ;-) I may be wrong, but I would assume tha...

for massive bass, and grit, try layering a synth track under the bass. The kind that makes you feel all funny on the inside when it's loud. No one said you can't trick everyone into thinking it's only a bass guitar. Also, if you don't want to go that route, when using distortion for bass, many of us...

I tried out a Robbie and thought it was great for vocals. I ended up buying something better for drums in the end though. I also have a Blue Bluebird. I love it on my voice. Not so much on other voices. I sound nothing like John Lennon so it may not be the mic for you.

your computer can do everything that a masterlink can. The editing, adding eq, compression, etc... making playlists... the only thing that will really change is the converters will be different. That changes the sound. If you're going audiophile on this, I would suggest looking into the Benchmark co...

I may be alone in this, but I think producing is the only part of what we do that can't be taught. Producers tend to hear the skeleton of a song and immediately know how to improve it, either with arrangement, changing lyrics, melody, instrumentation, or all of the above. Producers tend to be alot m...

I usually crush room mics, so I don't see why crushing a dead mic with reverb would be much different. As long as slamming the reverb still has a natural decay it should still be convincing enough to use
