Topic: microphone into DI snafu (??)

I wonder if the problem was an XLR to 1/4" cable that was balanced, into a DI jack that wasn't? That would float the ring connection, so the mic's output wouldn't go anywhere. Only the tip and sleeve would connect, but that leaves the low side of the mic out unconnected. You might hear just a trace ...

As a frequent user of online catalogs, I agree, almost all suck. They seem to be designed by folks who only think you are looking for exactly what you know you need, to the letter. Instead a catalog is a wish, or dream book, like the McMaster-Carr book brought up earlier. You can open that book up a...

Hi Brian, Sorry, haven't been back. Glad you found the 11 ohm vs 100K thing. That'll screw things up. DigiKey isn't known for messing up too often. But you gotta check... Still some hum, could be excess ripple, or a bit too high a voltage causing more current draw than the filtering is good for. Har...

Well to some extent. Nowadays the ballast in a flourescent lamp for office use is up in the just above audio range, so it's merrily humming away putting out 25kc of crap, instead of the old 60c stuff it used too. Just as much, you just can't hear it. Gets into bloody everything, makes it a pain in t...

A few things to look for. Measure the unloaded supply output, ie, no mic plugged in, what is the B+ voltage? Should be 100v or maybe a bit more. Supply OK? Is your polystyrene input capacitor bad, biasing the tube wrong? It doesn't take much heat to mess these up. Grid bias voltage ought to be just ...

Another excellent flux remover is CarboSol, sold at many hardware stores or big box places like Menards.

It's a functional replacement for TriChlor, the wonder chemical that we can't use anymore thanks to the greenie idiots...

Up here in St. Paul, home of 3M we have AxMan surplus. When I was 20 or so a bunch of those remotes, the transport part, you know FF, RW Play and all without the channel assigns were for sale for $2 or so. I bought quite a few and adapted them to various tape machine remote controls. I've built a nu...

Because a family friend was the EV rep in Minnesota, they were my first real mics. I've owned RE-11's and 16's, DO-54's, RE-20's, 635A's, DS-35's, and my favorite, the CS-15, which came out about 1976 or so, one of the first electret mics that could be considered professional. They still sound good,...

A Sculley 280B two track for an LA-2 plus he gave me $100 An Ampex ATR-104 four track, that I bought for $600 for a U-87 $150 for a crate of shit at a 3M auction that contained: 1 Crown DC 300 2 Tektronix Video waveform...

I like S & G, but I was listenning to Wednesday Morning 3AM when I was in high school.

I always thought the album with Kodachrome and One Man's Ceiling and An American Tune was pretty good from top to bottom.

Poppy, but so what?
