The first problem might just be not routing the signal/arming the track correctly, I would check against the manual make sure you are following the steps exactly. Thanks. I'll double check. I have done a ton of recording on my old 38, but not this machine. Should be as simple as plug source in the ...

What other weird things? (Might help figuring-out the record/playback mystery). GJ Well, I didn't want to confuse the main problem, but: - Counter is counting backward. I.e., if I reset zero and hit play, it starts counting with a "-" in front of the number, and if I hit RTZ, it then fast forwards ...

Tascam TSR8 - Won't record?
Hi all, Working on a TSR8 that I inherited from my father. He used it to do voice-overs in his home studio in the 90's. I have several reels of 1/2" which play fine, his and mine, but when I try to record on it, I get nothing. Signal shows on the meters as expected, record arm lights work on the cha...

1. assign that channel to an aux bus. create a new audio track with that aux bus as the input. arm the channel and record. 2. I'd probably look for another studio. I can't imagine why they could possibly work "only" at 48k. I've had lots of arguments with people about whether recording at 48K vs. 4...

Re: Fender (Squier) Vintage Modified Jazz bass
Been thinking about picking up a budget backup bass (3B's!) lately, and am intrigued by this . Sounds like a decent value, provided one doesn't mind doing some setup work upon receipt. (I don't.) I'm a Fender fan, and have avoided all things "Squier" so far, but... Anyone have any experience (recor...

Sound Forge and CD architect are great on the pc side. How about waveburner on the mac side of audio? I have heard about Waveburner and Wave Editor, and they look nice, but I'm loath to make a switch when these are working for me. I'd definitely try them out if I were starting from scratch. I did t...

I use a Mac for almost everything, but two apps that I can't quit from my PC days are Sound Forge and CD Architect. SF is still way easier for me to use than any 2-track editor I've found for the Mac, and CD Architect is by far my favorite CD authoring tool. I use them _after_ I'm done in ProTools, ...

Re: mackie mixer -> compressor -> protools interface q
hi, I want to use a physical compressor before my signal hits protools. I think I can use my mackie mixer's insert to send to compressor in, and then plug the compressor out to my firewire 1814. Does this sound reasonable? I can probably figure out the cabling necessary. thanks, Al Try using the Ma...

Some of my favorite "drum" sounds have been drum machines, for hard rock and industrial type music. I always like to get a nice clean direct recording of it first, then I'm free to screw around with it. My magic recipe usually involves a little compression, a touch of overdrive via a modeller, and s...

Can you post some pictures of it? I had the two channel version of this and it had outs for each channel and a mix out. You might not have to do anything to it. They use transformer inputs and have common socketed ICs so you can do a lot with it if you want to customize. What are you trading it for...

Altec 1684 Mic Automixer - Usable for pre's?
Hi all, Someone offered me an Altec 1684 in trade for some gear I don't want any more. He described it as an 8-channel preamp, but looking on the interweb suggests it's actually called a "mic mixer", and may or may not be useful as a preamp for mics. I'd be happy if I could use it for mics or line l...

Hi. You don't need to take the front off to adjust the reel table height. Take the metal shell that makes the sides and top off (I can't remember if you have to take the back off to do this). You'll see the reel motors at that point. There are two screws that hold the reel tables to the motor shaft...
