Has anyone gotten a chance to play with Blue's new Encore series of live vocal mics?

I'm very curious about the active dynamic Encore 200 for the price.

Don't have the raw tracks yet, but I did just get an mp3 of the two-track live mix from our Sunday afternoon gig. For a gig we didn't intend to record, and for a tune that hasn't been "mixed" beyond the live show, I'm impressed with the quality of the StudioLive. 58s on the vocals, AKG c451 on the f...

I didn't actually get to put my hands on the board, but an acquaintance just picked up 2 StudioLive boards for his live sound production rig and brought one to our show last night -- he ran our live sound from it and recorded at the same time: each track plus a quick two-track mix. For a new piece o...

TapeOp gets love at February Album Writing Month (FAWM.org)

Over at FAWM.org (highly recommended songwriting challenge during the month of February) the message boards are still going strong, and a recent thread with questions about soundproofing and acoustic treatment brought out the love and recommendations for TapeOp... http://fawm.org/forums/thread/907/ ...

FAWM - February Album Writing Month 2009

Where the RPM challenge is to record an album during February, FAWM challenges you to write the record -- 14 songs in 28 days. http://fawm.org/ There's no requirement to record demos for FAWM, but the amount of feedback you receive if you do is remarkable, supportive, and constructive. A good number...

To my knowledge there isn't a "humanize" feature in GB, but you can quantize midi tracks with the "fix timing" button, so one thought would be to play the original track without it, then copy the track and "fix" that one... might create the effect you are looking for.

Thanks for the input! I'm using these to hopefully serve a dual purpose -- to work as bass traps in the corners of the room, and also to serve as gobo screens. Since I'm building four of them, I think I just might build two each way for flexibility and/or experimentation. So glad to hear I don't nee...

Apple just updated the $999 white plastic macbook to the approximate specs of the "aluminum unibody" macbooks but kept the firewire port! HOORAY! As my G4 powerbook rapidly approaches death, I was getting stressed about no firewire on the newer macbooks versus the price of the mac book pros. The har...

Bass Traps / Gobos -- Foil backing or no?

I'm about to start building some portable bass traps / gobos tonight, 2' x' 4' x 4" of rigid fiberglass (two 2" panels), framed with cabinet-grade plywood. My question for the TOMB is since my panels have foil on one side, will having the two foiled sides facing in the middle be much different sonic...

FAWM

Don't forget, too, that February Album Writing Month (FAWM.org) is right around the corner -- an annual challenge to write 14 songs in 28 days with a great online community. There is no requirement to actually demo your tunes, but the ammount of feedback you receive is definitely tied to having a re...

I'm in Roanoke, Virginia and couldn't find anyone locally with Owens 703, but happily found an insulation supply company who carries the Johns Manfield equivalent, called 814 for $1.63 / sq ft. So this morning I picked up 8 panels of 4'x2' 2" panels for just over $100... I was happy. Now to make the...

Re: Little Martin

s compared to say the awful Backpacker, or the Baby Taylor. I've had a Martin Backpacker and Baby Taylor for years -- both are useful for different things. You're right that the Backpacker is subjectively "awful," but I find that sometimes when recorded it offers an un-guitar-like tone that can be ...
