I've always wanted to try wiring one pickup to a tiny built-in speaker (powered by a 9V Ruby amp) placed behind the bridge. In my mind, it would keep the guitar vibrating right at the edge of feedback all the time. In practice, it might just feedback horribly all the time.

Sounds like you are *almost* describing a Fisher boom, might look to its design for inspiration. If this is for indoor dialogue recording, a good cheap option is the Oktava mc012 with a hyper cardioid capsule. Yes, it will need a shockmount and some basic wind protection. Sennheiser now offers this ...

I'm building an XLR patchbay for my Presonus M80 to bring the inputs to the front of my rack. To save some money I've just ordered this pre-punched rack panel . I'm loading the front with female panel jacks, which are then hard-wired to short cables terminated with male XLR connector(to the Presonus...

There are some acoustic whizzes that post here and on gearslutz that are very generous with their know-how, you can find a ton of practical advice and DIY designs. I'll second kslight's advice to do some heavy research now. Now for this hack's two cents: The biggest problems I see are the low ceilin...

There are mods you could do to the Presonus Eureka, this thread discusses some possibilities: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/181827-hotrodded-presonus-eureka.html Also, have you considered the Liquid Mix plugin or hardware? No preamp emulation, but the EQ and compressors ...

+1 ripping out the innermost layers of mesh. I found it easy to grab the mesh near the seam and pull it apart with a twisting motion, rather than pulling straight back. The mesh is wicked sharp, might wanna wear gloves. I think replacing signal capacitors is also worthwhile, especially the cap right...

Made some before and after recordings, the RK-47 capsule sounds a lot smoother on the top. I'd li...

I've worked with a HRD that was made in Mexico. It had no noise issues to speak of, and after some simple mods + Celestion V30 speaker upgrade sounded pretty bangin'. You can pick these up all day long in your price range. What you are describing sounds like it might be a bad grounding scheme common...

It really depends on what you want to accomplish with this camera. You will rarely get great sound if the mic is going to be mounted on the camera, but it might be good enough for corporate videos and informal web interviews. There are lots of scenarios where you might want to be shopping for a hype...

http://soundworkscollection.com/ This website is great; there are segments on both the movies you cited. The Foley portion of the Transformers 3 profile is especially awesome and might give you some good ideas. I think Gregg's suggestion is an excellent one. Brass instruments, large metal objects. F...

I'm looking to do pretty much the same thing, although my project is on the back-burner right now. An easy plan of attack would be to get the cheapest possible housing ( a counterfeit mic like this perhaps: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SONY-ECM-DS70P-ELECTRET-STEREO-MICROPHONE-MIC-/360292535377?pt=LH_Def...
