Re: Best mic for acoustic in live setting?

I toured with a well known songwriter for five years. We had a full crew, our own sound people, backline people etc. The guy had great guitars. He had the K&K pickup and internal microphone setup with a high end channel strip type preamp for the DI and the internal mic. I really love the K&K pickup ...

Tried one once. Bad results.

It puts the mic too close to the skin.

It doesn't have to.

Re: Mic stands in 2022?

The heavy duty Atlas stand with the suspension in it is still a great one. I think everybody ought to have at least one for their 'good' vocal mic. Super solid and stable. https://vintageking.com/atlas-ms25e-pro-microphone-stand-w-air-suspension-ebony The Triad-Orbit stuff is mighty good too. Next l...

Re: Anyone ever use one of these kick mic mounts?

Both of the kicks I have the internal mics in have some holes in the shells from older mounts (tom mount on the Premier, marching band harness on the 26" Ludwig). A lot of older kicks may also have some holes where the legs have been replaced or where an on the drum ride cymbal stand was. The air ho...

Re: Anyone ever use one of these kick mic mounts?

As a guy who really loves the sound and the response of a 2 headed kick drum with no hole in it I have been using a much less complicated version of an internal kick mic for most of the records cut at our place for over 20 years. The mount is a simple job that attaches to the nuts on the inside of t...

I really liked the hearing aids part of the Lukather interview. It's important, a lot of musicians (and engineers) have had significant hearing loss and there's a huge stigma around it.
Especially the folks that waited a long time to start using protection for live gigs.

Re: BEATLES GET BACK DISCUSSION

I always measure a spaced pair's distance from the snare. Mostly because it takes about 1 minute and it's definitely not going to hurt. Sure, use your ears most of all, but I like knowing that the sound from the snare is reaching each mic at the exact same time. Then forget about how the tom and fl...

Re: Plug-in suggestions for the minimalist studio

But there are things I simply can't do effectively - or at all - in this space that I hadn't realized how much I was relying on. Re-amping, quickly recording custom drum samples, and most of all just walking around the room to get a different perspective (this room isn't big enough for that.) Have ...

Re: BEATLES GET BACK DISCUSSION

U67's everywhere! I've never seen so many in one place.

I guess this was also a super feather in the cap of Fender's Don Randall to get them all that gear at just the right time too.

Not a Coles or a Vox to be seen!

I'm going to get some heavy-duty metal cabinets for organizing stuff around the studio.
We have the Husky brand cabinets at the studio and they have been really great.
I have one at home too for bike parts.
