Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

Is playlist comping also part of your new reality?

I can't remember when that came out but I've found it indispensable ever since.

Re: The Pro Jr.

If you haven't had an EL84 amp before it's good to know that if the amp is getting used they wear out quicker than other tubes. As long as you put in a matched pair you don't have to bias them. It's a plug and play situation. Maybe that's the same issue Fender had with the Blues Jr. - they had the ...

Re: The Pro Jr.

I'm a big fan of these amps. I have 4 that are from different eras. First thing to do is figure out what speaker is in there. Different versions shipped with different speakers. The Jensens that a lot of them shipped with are pretty good. If you want more volume the Eminence RaGin Cajun is very effi...

Re: I'm not a piano technician

Dolly is key for any piano that gets moved, even a little bit. We got one years ago for our spinet after the piano tech showed me how even just moving one end of the piano out a foot or two over time was totally disrupting the integrity of the piano. I think ours cost a couple hundred bucks. The pos...

Re: RIP Chris Garges @cgarges

I bought some monitors from Mitch Easter recently and that rabbit hole brought me back to the TOMB for the first time in several years. An article about Mitch mentioned the news about Chris. I mainly knew him through the forum but one day on a whim, I bid on a Topaz board on eBay and won it. Realiz...

Re: I'm not a piano technician

That's great that you got into it. When I had my "jazz bar" (Avenue B Social Club, later became Manitoba's) we had a nice Yamaha upright in there and some very good players on our calendar. I was getting the piano tuned every couple weeks and worked on too. I would go there to let the guy in and all...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I didn't try to take the ISO-Puck Minis apart. Height was a consideration when I looked at some of the products. The ISO-Puck Minis were the lowest profile of the products that I looked at. So the eternal question here is whether you want your monitor rigidly attached to the Core of the Planet, or ...

Re: The bottom of the snare

As someone who has owned nothing but 100 watt tube amps or very loud old Peavey solid state amps for guitar amps, I really do need to get some lower wattage amps that excel in the studio. The Pro Jr. sounds pretty fucking cool. I miss my one knob Epiphone head. That was great in the studio. Cool......

Re: The bottom of the snare

I reca roscoenyc as a long-time proponent of The Pro,Jr., using them ( a pair, I think?) on stage with Earle. I think his might have been goosed, as, I believe, were Jeff Beck's. Lovely amp, awesome pedal platform but good sounding on it's own when ya want that just-at-breakup sound, it's perhaps l...

Re: The bottom of the snare

I always mic the bottom. If I get tracks from somebody with no mic on the bottom I re-amp the snare track with a snare drum sitting on top of a Fender Pro Jr and mic the snares there. I almost always have an 1176 plug on the bottom snare fast attack/slowest release.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I got a set of IsoAcoustic's Iso-Puck Minis for them from the Amazons. They came in a day and were absolutely simple to get going. For $99 I got better imaging and clearer lows with my set up. Are the Iso-puck-minis anything more than silicone gel pads? I bought some of the Auralex ProPod Lites (th...

Re: Size Matters!

In the past I had two smaller monitors up close, one for the edit screen and one for the mixer, which was cool. Then I went to one decent size tv, like 40” maybe, a bit further back on an arm. Now I’m on a 27” iMac. I do miss the bigger screen. I have been on a monitoring (speaker) set up mission o...

Re: 1073's... Real deal or one of the many clones?

I've got 4 vintage 1067s. They do sound really great and haven't been that much trouble but if I didn't live close to some really good techs I may have bailed on them by now. Aside from the vintage stuff I have I'm never really looking for more vintage stuff because of price and maintenance. I'm alw...
