Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
The first time I ever saw mounted stands like that was at the Nashville RCA Studio B museum. Studio B was the original RCA room pre-dating the larger A room. They installed them years and years ago. They almost never changed the arrangement of the room (where people were set up) They would routinely...

Re: Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts
they did overdub real cymbals on the Def Leppard record.
They used a famous session guy and did it in a basement with plywood on all the surfaces because Mutt Lange "liked the sound".
But hey, it only took a month?

Re: replicating "bleed" in a multitrack recording
As others have said, half of "bleed" is people playing together as in it sounds so good to have everyone playing together that the bleed doesn't matter. With that as an accepted truth one way to get a little of that 'same room feeling' is to do that lead vocal last and do it in the control room with...

Re: The Truth Hurts - REW and my room...
I've got an anecdotal story for you that relates to your subject in a sort of 'more than one way to skin a cat' way. When we first setup Cowboy Technical in it's first location on Hope Street in Williamsburg over 20 years ago (!?!?) we got going there and started making records. Both my partner Tim ...

A new one is over $400.
I'd send it to EV for their full service and look at it like it was a deal.
You'll get a working microphone out of it.

I used AudioMovers to have a virtual meeting with a client where we did listen throughs of the songs then spoke on the phone after each one and compared lists. AudioMovers has really become indispensable for me and my workflow. That looks cool! If only I knew musicians smart enuff/interested enuff ...

Man, I can't tell you how much I like that Ikea chair.
How can it be so comfortable?
I have one without the wheels also.

Re: Plug-in suggestions for the minimalist studio
Thanks so much everyone! This is incredibly helpful. I didn't realize how many subscription models there were now - I've mostly bought plugins one at a time from smaller companies, here and there. The irony is that in light of that, it's looking as though the bulk of the expense will be a UAD satel...

Re: Commercial studios: how do you charge?
We charge a day rate. Same rate for tracking, overdubs and mixing. Sessions take time to prepare for and we don't charge for that but that's part of the reason we do day rates. Sometimes for clients we have had for a long time we'll do a half day if they need it. Partial days/hourly don't really wor...
