PT 8.0.3 w/2010 MacBookPro line-- 15" i5 v.13" 2.6
Sorry if already addressed here in the forums , couldn't find this exact topic. Need to replace my whupped white MB 2.16 core 2; is it really worth the $600+ more to go with an i5 15" MBP rather than the speediest new 13" core 2? Screen size not an issue at all, I use it with an additional monitor ...

I seem to've always had better luck using manual nudging than time adjuster on PTLE... but heck for $49 the ATA by mellowmuse seems like a screamin deal. and for those who haven't done so, you can check the plugin latency on a track by command(or 'apple key') clicking on the fader level display at t...

I used their AEA R92 Ribbon mic in the back of the room and put it through a Chandler Compressor for a bit of room sound, yeah. The room sounds great, and that was a good spot for room sounds as it was in between the two isolation booths and didn't pick up much guitar from those booths, just thumpy...

find them, acquire them, love them
I LOVED the one 500 I long had (*sigh*), use one whenever possible still. KILLER proximity effect when you want it, or just scooch it back a 1/2" for a totally different response. Magic on thin vocals, drum overhead/room, too-trebly guitar rigs, etc- m500 close-up will soothe & thicken these nicely,...

ah I miss mine for sure. Used on everything. So much tonal variation to be had 'cos of tight pickup pattern & response-curve selectors, couple that with slight distance or angle adjustments (well, like with any mic really) and you can get quite the range of tones. AND, like many directional mics, yo...

yeah trodd-ski: that place we had, we used mostly 499 the last couple years (I think?!) At least that's what we'd keep the 1" calibrated for. With those re-lapped heads, running 499 or G9 on it worked really well with needles-pinned levels. And total explosionism running 456 on it when cal'd for 499...

i think the sound of Pinkerton is JJ Puig (the mixer)really driving/compressing the drum & room mics hard... I did an early tune for the Gossip and it was a similar request : less clean, please! It ended up with some of the previous suggestions made: tracked to 1" 16tk, mono room mic through a tape ...

hmm, blown-up-ish... I've had good luck with micing kits from oddly resonant places, like the dish cabinet in the studio hallway, or from sticking a mic in the (completely dry) clothes washer... and yep of often then compressing and/or distorting the bejayuzus out of it... one thing that seemed utte...

+1. Good sounds, man! I love jpot, was 'mastering' stuff there today (er, yesterday & I can't call myself a proper mastering engineer, I'm mostly a mixer). The gear, the rooms & the overall feel of the joint makes it my favorite. Sheesh every freaking patch-point works, Kendra sets up the tape machi...

The Faderport is pretty great for what it is. You only get one fader but it's easy to toggle through channels. For me having real transport buttons is worth the price of the unit. +1 It allows me to do a lot of things in sequence without touching a mouse. +2, Faderport is super cool & you really ca...

JWL is deep with the knowledge. It can be full-on shocking, the improvements to be had with really simple room measurements and treatments. I could definitely upgrade my ad/da and hope to, but broadband control & sponging up the excess low-end makes what we have a thousand times more truthful in the...

I loved my demo of Decapitator. And dammit, the demo just ran out!... WORD. There's an enormous variety of behaviors to get out of Decapitator, from rich tonal guitar gravy to exploding dumptruck room mic mayhem. Even helped round off an already-nuked glockenspiel, better than other solutions tried...

I'm pretty happy with these Wharfedale 8.2 monitors, ?$300/pair new. 6 1/2" woven fiber woofer, 1" fabric dome tweeter with a titanium driver behind it.
