the problem I tend to run into most is this situation is that MANY artists that wish to record this way tend to REALLY lean into thier guitars more than their vocals. this is a problematic balance issue that cannot be fixed "in the mix". Often vocals get buried in more "Passionate" passages. If your...

Name That Mic...take 2

Watching a Bio of Bob Dylan, I saw in studio and onstage a pair of ball shaped mics being used to record/amplify his and othere of his era acoustic folky type acts. What is the make and model of that mic????

What is the model of the EV mic used in the film "Walk The Line" in the live scenes? I've seen it a million times on old broadcasts, but don't know the model #

Studios/Producers/etc. in or around NYC

Hi, I'm Tony and I have a top notch studio in Upstate NY. I'm getting married in the spring and my lady lives in NYC. I have 20 years in as producer, engineer, signed artist, FOH, studio owner, etc. I have a top flight collection of gear and a great space, but as I'll be moving, I'm looking for stud...

Thanks for the sympathy! What kind of professional musician smashes another one's instrument??? I've been building furniture and cabinets, (and LOTS of speaker cabs!) and doing my own repairs since I was knee high to a short frog, andno matter how it turns out I just can't throw away this guitar!! I...

Need serious help with MAJOR acoustic gtr repair......Info?

My beloved '67 Gibson Hummingbird got STOMPED on and severely damaged. The top is ruined and a piece of the side on the upper bout. I got an estimate for $4300.00, more than a grand more than the value. I need info or links on how to safely break the glue joints. I need to remove the top binding saf...

Sorry i wsn't clear about the # of inputs. He does it somehow WITHOUT the lightpipe......For bigger track count sessions the club rents a Presonus unit with pre's and lightpipe. My friend can trick it into 14 from the board but a couple are stereo pairs only.

I disagree with one point.....If you're running in OS9 with a mix+ you can get a disc with every plugin ever supported from anywhere. (Not that I'm condoning piracy!) The Lexiverb plug didn't seem to follow all of the uprades and I used to LOVE that! Agree with the main point.....you need to run a s...

Agreeing with most........SDC 's are more versatile than lower end ribbons and yield a more "Standard" sound. Ribbons really do smooth out any harshness in the cymbals, but tend to have a bit less detail and snare KRAK. I love ribbons on aggressive tracks, especially if the drummer's technique is le...

Heil stage mics vs. Beyer M88

I use the Beyerdynamic M88 as a live vocal mic. I love the way it responds to the bottom range of my rather low Bari-Tenor voice. My problem is that I'm rough on live mic's and have gone through 3 in the last year and a half. At the M88's price tag this is an issue!! I would love to hear from anyone...

I own one of the first 100 Lawson 47's, and have never owned or used a more versatile mic. The Lawson capsule is based on the commou U47 mod, as it is 3 microns thick as opposed to 6 as the U47 came stock. Almost without exception, every U47 I have ever used or seen used had the 3 micron mod. It is ...

been doing FOH for almost 20 years. Small to medium club #1 rule is to get the vocals as loud as possible and work around that. A kick mic is pretty much always a good idea, but don't overdo the low end. Mic's on the guitars cab(s) make the bands feel better, but just 'cause it's mic'ed you dont hav...

Wow, the RNC back on the board!! I have all kinds of comps at my place, including 3 RNC's. My opinion is that if you're looking for color or warmth or any other buzzword effect, skip the RNC. If you're looking for transparent taming or tracking with compression to keep your bit rate up without artif...

I think their might be a reason that fine instruments are made from wood as opposed to drywall or other man made stuff!! (excepting DanElectro guitars!!) Wood is IMHO MUCH better tonally than drywall. Drywall has that "Sheetrock Ping" in most cases, while wood reflects in a more appealing way. Some ...
