Roland VS-2480
A Roland VS-2480 meets your requirements. 16 track simultaneous recording (@ 16/44.1). Can also record at 24/96, but the simultaneous recording track count goes down to either 12 or 8. 8 XLR inputs, 8 TRS line inputs. You can also use an ADAT-equipped 8 channel preamp (like the Behringer ADA8000 or ...

Re: Anyone mixing OTB to a solid state recorder?
For quick, rough mixes, I'll use my handheld Tascam DR-07 via the analog line-in, which allows me to distribute rough mp3 mixes quickly and easily. But (obviously) for hi-res mixdown, I'd love to find a solid state recorder that has digital I/O and that supports 24/96 The TASCAM DR-100 MkII support...

Anyone mixing OTB to a solid state recorder?
Hey all. I'm looking for recommendations for a solid state recorder for OTB mixdown. Currently, I use a Masterlink, which I like, but I'm thinking that a solid state recorder would be more convenient and efficient. For quick, rough mixes, I'll use my handheld Tascam DR-07 via the analog line-in, whi...

I have the Tascam DR-07. I think its built-in mics are fine for recording rehearsals, but that's about it. However, the unit gives you the option of using an external mic as well (via a TRS mini-plug, unfortunately). But for $140, it's a great deal. It has replaced my portable Minidisc recorder for ...

Hi Ray Thanks for the response sorry about the delayed reply. Interesting stuff although it looks as I feared, I may have to upgrade if I want to mix externally from the Fostex. I may have to bite the bullet and try and get some sort of computer set up. Just out of interest what are you're thoughts...

By the way did you ever try to mix on a board from the VF160, I know you can hook it up to ADAT but am wondering if there is any way to use this connection just to go into a mixing desk. I have tired to use the onboard mixing facilities but found it pretty frustrating. You could buy a digital mixer...

dbx 163x
I can only speak to the dbx 163x. I use it in my live bass rig, and I like it. The hi-Z (instrument) input was a big selling point for me, since I like to hit the compressor before the preamp in my bass amp (as opposed to putting the compressor in the effects loop, which some players prefer). Basica...

Thanks for all the great feedback. Sounds like the foam mats that I found are not going to do much absorption, so they'll go back in the closet until the next yoga craze hits. Though, based on kayagum's comments, I might try using them on the floor of my tracking space and see if they make a positiv...

Foam exercise/yoga mats as sound absorbers?
2nd post from a long-time lurker. I continue to be amazed at the knowledge and experience of the people in this forum. Now that I'm a registered user (and TapeOp subscriber), I'm hoping to slowly start posting questions without embarrassing myself too badly. That said, in my never ending quest to im...

+1 on the Canon MiniDV camcorders
+1 on the Canon MiniDV recorders. I've got a Canon ZR500 and it's great. I did a fair amount of research before buying it, and it was definitely the most bang for the buck. At the time of purchase (about 2 years ago), I think I only paid about $250. And Canon's reported reliability seems to be prett...
