I realize it's Christmas music but I'd love some additional feedback. I want to make sure I'm capturing a live jazz concert accurately.

Thanks. I used the Waves SSL Comp on the master buss with a 2:1 ratio, auto release, compression around 4dB. I'll try posting an uncompressed mix.

First Jazz Mix - Rudolph

Recorded a friend's (sax player) live project over Christmas. He wants me to mix it for release next fall. I've never mixed jazz before so I'm open for any pointers.

Great feedback guys, thanks so much. Unfort, the band has come up with a new feel for the song and want to re-record it. The good news is I might get to record it which would be nice since this was just a mixing job. The recordings were not the best. They kind of wanted to go for the Coldplay sound ...

Maybe some slapback but bury it in the mix. Think Johnny Cash.

Tascam D-38 Input Options

I have a friend who wants me to record a jazz concert for him and swears I use his Tascam D-38s because he likes how they sound. The board in the venue is a Mackie Onyx 24-4 and has D-SUB direct outs, post fader. I know I'll need some breakout cables but I forget what input options the D-38s have. I...

Remote Recording Rig

A friend and I are wanting to put together a remote recording setup capable of doing everything from weddings to concerts. Something capable of doing 32-48 tracks and monitoring. We'll edit/mix in ProTools post. I have experience with the Alesis HD24s and have considered the HD24XRs for the recorder...

Tascam 388 *AS IS* For Repair or Parts

All channels work, all VU meters work, cannot confirm if tape section works because I do not have any tape but the mechanics seem to work . The only reason I cannot sell as new is because it was banged up in shipping and has two bust corners (laminate) and some other minor cosmetic damage. No cracks...

What I'm saying is that you can have two files that are identical enough to cancel each other but one might sound "deeper" than the other.

Forget science, use your ears and the answer is yes. Flip the phase and it probably cancels but A/B and you'll hear a lose of depth. There's more to sound than a sound wave.

Get over it people... Street price will be much less and it's more than a dongle, it also had D/A for monitoring and comes with ProTools LE and their normal bundle of goodies. This is a great deal/option for those getting into PT or for those who need portability. You guys complain about how much yo...
