yeah i used to think Floyd was all about DSOTM and Wall until someone turned me on to Umma Gumma. I had a new found respect for them! just try walking down the street listening to it on headphones! Definetly a post barret pre Wall fan here. but even the later chrome and granite Pink FLoyd is pretty ...

a while ago the guys from negativeland hosted a radio show on KPFA in berkeley. It was a call in participation show where people would play their instruments over the phone and Negativland would mix it live. Crazy. they also regularly gave out the instructions for building your own telephone interfa...

the jacketed ones ship cheaper and are generally cheaper overall for packaging last I checked. Good for promos. I'm looking in to this as well. As soon as I finsh my 52 songs in one year project I want to release it as a 4 volume set. And one proper cd with only the good songs.

I helped a buddy replace all the cymbals with various pitched white/pink noise. It was hilarious fun. But in the end it sounded better than the cracked sabians on the recording. i think we got the noise from a DX7?

yeah for years after I learned to coil cable correctly I would get a big kick out of grabbing the near end of teh cable on the inside of teh coil and throwing it across a stage/studio so it wuold land right where I wanted it. Hecka ninja. Only works if you coiled it over/under. I used to prosleytize...

the thing that a lot of people forget when talking about sounds systems whether for recording or for reinforcement is the nuts and bolts. Be sure and budget for all the mundane stuff like cable and connectors. Headphones, mic stands and furniture. It can add up real fast. Just think 24 inputs, 24 mi...

yeah for real though. I really think the whole thing of building a transistor, transformerless preamp, then adding a singlestarved tube in it is silly. It's not going to capture the sound the same way a transformer followed by one or more tubes running at full volts does. It's not going to impart ha...

yeah, honestly,(for reals) I am more likely to solder something into shape out of some junk than buy ANYTHING new. Actually my summit 2ba221 is the first new thing I've bought audiowise in years. It's all been going into my computer heap for quite a while now.

yeah, what I meant is that the price diferance between API and OSA is tiny in comparison. i mean a rack, a couple of pres. You are already at almost 2 grand. Who cares about 1 or 2 hundred?

have you cracked it open to see what transistors or ICs it is using? and what is teh vintage of that model? I think maybe 80's? It may benefit from a re-cap. Not cheap to get done because its a PITA! I am actually embarking on a recapping mod project with a PM1000 soon. I have almost all the parts a...

I got an old 57/unidyne III I wonder if the 50 ohm tap exists? I also wonder if ther is a bunch of funky orange junk down by the tranny like on the last 57 I repaired. The unidyne III/57 is a weird one. It sounds a little better than a regular 57 but will cave in with too much SPL forma loud amp or ...
