Re: My poor hears are getting old
the older I get, the more sensitive my ears get. Same here. I'm not complaining, but sometimes it makes being out in the world a bit challenging, everything seems too loud, the beeps from supermarket scanners for instance. Back when we lived in the city, screeching bus brakes would have me diving f...

Re: I’m about to record some drums, help me not screw it up
Before you go nuts with blankets and all that, I'd suggest setting up some mics, do some recording and see how it's sounding. If it's too bright/splashy you'll know, and then you can try some blankets. Actually you could probably tell if it's going to be too splashy just by talking in there.

Re: I’m about to record some drums, help me not screw it up
All great advice so far. If you can get *something* on the ceiling right over the kit, try and do that, reflections off a low ceiling are a killer. Can make for terrible cymbal sounds that are basically impossible to fix. Can't remember if I mentioned this in your other thread, but my default spot f...

Re: how much snare do you want (or not want) in your overheads
I haven't but I bet it sounds lovely!
If there's too much snare in the OH can you not simply squash it down with a nice fast compressor? That's what I do as a matter of course anyway...

Re: how much snare do you want (or not want) in your overheads
This is a good idea, the only thing is snare sounds SO good thru an m160 overhead it seems a shame to position the mic(s) to minimize it. I'm just sayin'....

Re: CASSETTE TAPE LIFESPAN
Yeah, we're in Rhode Island, my tapes are up in a closet in the guest bedroom, before that they spent 16 years in a huge old loft in South Boston (now history thanks to gentrification). All sorts of heat/humidity swings. They've just lived in their cases, out of the sun, no problem.

Re: CASSETTE TAPE LIFESPAN
I transferred all my old cassette stuff a couple years ago, everything played fine, no issues at all, and all of it was at least 25 years old, closer to 30.

Re: AIAB pedals
Not familiar with those pedals but I'll put in a plug here for the Bugera PS-1 power soak. 120 bucks. Lets me play my amps at whisper quiet volume, and I can send a di signal to the computer to use with a speaker IR. Has made recording guitars way easier and way more fun.
