D-Tar mixing/blending preamp

This little sucker is made for guitar players, but looks cool for mics as well. You could conceivably piggy-back the two channels for a lot of gain. Bad parts: only +15V phantom power; only one mixed/blended ouput. Good parts: 20Hz-80kHz frequency response; switchable EQ; switchable -20 dB pad; phas...

I have one of these exact boards. I love her to death . TONS of routing options - more than any other board this size built between then and now. Pres are cool. EQ is great - high-shelf, mid-sweep AND low-sweep. The two sweeping EQs has saved me many times (since I have no outboard EQ). These things...

Please, does anybody have any tips on regular/daily cleaning procedures? I have been lazy in doing this, and any recommendations would be great. I need to start a regimen to keep my ears in healthy good shape. So, does the medicated-liquid solution do any good? How about cotton swabs (not going too ...

Yamaha 2404 console QUESTIONS -HURRY!

Yamaha 2404: Not much technical info on Google. NEED help tonight, hopefully in the next 4 hours! Any help after that is great, too, don't worry! So here goes... Is this console similar in any way to the PM-1000, whose preamps everybody loves? It looks like the 2404 is modular in groups of 4 channel...

Man, I used to love TONS of crappy stuff. Then around my 17th year, I just started to "get it", and I started questioning the real value and talent in the shit I had been listening to. I said to myself, "wow, all this stuff just isn't very good." So here's a brief list: Counting Crows - Pretty much ...

(1) Personal Experience and History Some of these posts made me furious and some of them gave me hope. I have had 3 internships in the last 5 years, I have been 100% dedicated to each of them, and 5 years later I am still 100% dedicated to recording, and would put in a full effort if I could get ano...

Well first off, thank you for all the help and advice you've given me, Doug. I had never heard of a Variac before, but the concept makes total sense to me. If you'd be willing, maybe we could continue this via email or PM instead of taking up posts in this forum. If you don't have the time or energy...

Man alive Doug, relax! I didn't plug it in! Care to tell me what you're so hopped-up about? I mean, I'll take your word that it's dangerous and trust you on that, but freaking out doesn't do me much good unless you explain what the potential problem is. By methodology, I hope you mean finding out th...

My experience is not as great as many people on this board - I've only been doing this as a serious hobby for 5 years, and lots of guys around here have been recording professionally for 10+ years - so take that into account when you hear my opinion. Teac and Tascam tape machines (Teac is/was the pa...

The tubes are mostly RCA and Raytheon. There are one each of Sylvania and Westinghouse. Are these worth anything? How would they sound good in other audio units (think ART Pro VLA or cheap Presonus tube preamp)? The unit that is missing out of the chassis is the one I pulled out to take pictures, so...

Fuck belts AND direct drive - it's all about magnet drive . And I quote: "The Disc Master uses an arrangement of opposing magnets to drive the platter." There's no question that the EAR Disc Master Turntable is what you should buy. It's a steal at a cool $17000. That's right, only 17 grand! Equally ...

Doug- Since you seem to know a lot about stuff like this piece, can you hazard a guess as to whether or not it'll have any audio applications? As you'll see in the following pictures, there are simple inputs and outputs for each channel located on the back of the chassis. That will save me the troub...

Thanks trask- I'll pick that one up next time I go to the library. I think I've seen it there. Now, about that $30 fine I have to pay. Here's one I've picked up that was pretty good: "Recording Studio Technology, Maintenance, and Repairs" by Tim McCartney The title says it all - it's very fo...

The reason I was thinking that these could possibly be audio-related is because of the popular tape speed settings on the front. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 1 7/8 ips is the speed that regular tape cassettes run at. And then there is 7 1/2 ips, which I think is common for consumer-grade reel-to-ree...
