In mixing, how do you place instruments in their own space?

My band is about to start mixing an album recorded on a Tascam 388, we're planning on mixing inside the 388 to a DAW stereo track. Standard bass, drums , 2 gtrs, vocals + 2 or 3 backups vocals at times and a 3rd gtr/keyboard overdubs here & there. Pretty straight forword indie rock ala gbv, sebadoh,...

We're just about to do this, mix straight from 388 into a DAW stereo track. Are there any tips or tricks you guys can give me? Do you ...

Re: Audio Engineering Schools?

Berkee's had a program that covers most of that stuff for a long time. I've met a number of competent people who've come out of that program, but I've also met a lot of incompetent people who graduated from there. I see Berklee as a slightly less embarrassing version of Full Sail. In my experience,...

I've had the opposite reaction to my El Capistan as almost everyone else. It's sounds very sterile and not vibey at all for me but too prestine sounding... And at the same time i've had problems with subtle noise using it with a lots of other pedals, daisy chained or not. I've tried to use it on voc...

If you're considering pedals like the Strymon BlueSky, you might want to check out the new TC Electronic Hall of Fame Reverb. http://www.tcelectronic.com/hall-of-fame.asp I got one and its the first reverb to knock my holy grail (older big box) off my pedal board. I've been recording vocals with it ...

Moog app, Jasuto app are tops for me. +1 on MultiTrack DAW mentioned above. here's a link for hooking up 1/4"or whatever and matching imp. http://www.riotmode.com/cable.html i have a mono breakout box ve...

I just got one of these: http://www.newsignalprocess.com/site/nspbreakout/ and enjoying it very much. It's a breakout box that gives you a 1/4" input and output to your phone/pad, needs to be stereo though. I think they're working on a new version. My favorite part about doing stuff on the phone is ...

Moog Filtatron is so my favorite app right now! Anyone with an iphone that likes to quickly improvise ambient - cluster - or animal collective - loop based type stuff and such should buy this asap. Not sure if these things, (iphones, pads, apps, etc...) will ever evolve to become popular instrument...

I'll confess I didn't want to share this. I'm so ashamed but I wanted to be the only one with this incredible device. ...uh, even though it's on ebay and I'm sure he's sold dozens. This guy, spunkytoofers, builds and sells what you want... that's right, exactly what you want and his name is friggin'...

I've wanted to try this but never found the time:

I think there is a new version of the core part sold by RS then what was used but I think it could be figured out with a little reverse engineering. Let us know if you have any luck!

What does true bypass have to do with it when the pedal is on? Is there a buffer or something happening to the dry signal while the pedal is on that he doesn't like? I thought that's what he's complaining about. I really like the old EHX Pulsar Tremolo but the newer small stereo one sounds much diff...

Stolen Gear Alert : SF South Bay Area

Hey people in SF Bay Area, The band 'Worker Bee' in San Jose, CA had their recording rack and bin full of mics stolen from a house downtown last Sunday evening. Maybe $10,000 worth of gear. I'll hopefully have a full list with details up soon, they have the serial numbers already on file with the co...
