Free Studio Rack in Portland!

Portland audio people: anyone want a free studio rack? 2 rack spaces wide, great shape, wood trim, on casters. It has served well but I’m out of room for it! 43” wide, 76” high, 24” deep For a pic see: https://twitter.com/leighmarble/status/1320760356868821007?s=21 I could probably even drop it off ...

Re: Tons of Plugin Deals Right Now. Any Suggestions?

Here’s a free one that my company makes:

https://www.refusesoftware.com/flipper

It’s a simple polarity flipper. The idea is to effectively add a “phase” switch to any DAW mixer, letting you reverse polarity in any track with a single mouse click from the mixer (by bypassing or engaging the plug-in).

Re: Bought a Micro Limiter! Now how the hell do I set this up??

I have just bought an Alesis Micro Limiter after reading TapeOp's interview with Mac Demarco ("Everything I've ever done always goes through [one]"). I just went back and read that interview. Does it seem like he's saying he tracks everything through it, or that he's using it as a mix bus compresso...

Re: GT MD1a Microphone Cable

A few years back I had Redco make me a replacement cable for a Groove Tubes mic (well, the Alesis AM40, which is the same thing), which needs a 6 pin cable. I got the extra cable to have a spare, but also because the included cable was so stiff it would never lay flat on the floor, and forget about ...

Use Griffin PowerMate as Jog/Shuttle wheel with ShuttlePuck!

A few months back, we had an idea that seemed so obvious, we were sure that somebody had done it already. What if the Griffin PowerMate USB control knob could be used as a jog/shuttle wheel while working in Pro Tools? We looked into it, and there was no way to get jog/scrub/shuttle functionality fro...

The biggest difference will be in the low bass frequencies, where the extra mass is essential (the more mass, the lower the resonant frequency of the wall assembly; frequencies below resonance pass much more easily). If you go the foam route, and you have traintracks close by, I'd expect condenser ...

Topic: Monitor Controllers - what are we looking at currently?

I built a custom monitor controller some years back, and it has worked well. All-passive, balanced audio path. 3 ins, 3 outs (each done with a 4P3T rotary switch, Digikey 451-1030-ND if my notes are correct) -- and for an attenuator, there is a Dantimax stepped relay board between them. There are so...

The first user comments are starting coming out: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/high-end/869502-gyraf-audio-gyratec-xxi-magneto-dynamic-infundibulum.html Jakob E. Congrats, Jakob! I continue to be fascinated with the signal flow concept you came up with. The SOS review explains some of the technolo...

I'd like to know more about how this works. Seems like it could be simplified and adapted into a passive distortion pedal. Or is the clipping too subtle? I don't have an SOS subscription, so I couldn't read the rest of the article. Does the transformer actually have three windings, or is one side c...

I just read the review in SOS yesterday. I found the idea fascinating. Now I want to hear what it sounds like! On the SOS website they have some audio clips up. Haven't gotten to listen yet (they are all bundled together into a zip file, so not mobile-friendly), but here you go: http://www.soundons...

The Gyraf Magneto-Dynamic Infundibulum

Look, audio nerds, check it: The Gyraf G21 Magneto-Dynamic Infundibulum is a stereo, multi-band saturator/clipper. Sounds kinda run-of-the-mill and boring, right. But wait... 1. It's completely passive. Not just Pultec "passive EQ" passive - it has NO active electronics or makeup gain stages, and he...

First check without signal, rotate the pots. Then feed a sine wave and rotate all the pots. It should remain clean. OPA1641's are a good choice, easy to tame. OK, I'll give that a whirl with the scope. The OPA1641 looks like it has nice specs, but it's not available in a DIP package (surface mount ...
