oh yeah, once you open it up and have a look, it's obvious where the problem is.

might be an idea to buy a new stylus and adjust the tone arm. you'll ruin your records otherwise.

i know you were asking after books: but maybe the next step after kits could be -- buy PCBs and make those projects. you could say, make a modular synth or something from gyraf http://www.gyraf.dk/gy_pd/gyraf_diy.html . or buy some vero board and look up the schematics for guitar pedals or some piec...

wow. that's a lot of components for a delay unit.

this week, i found an ibanez ue405 multieffects unit dumped on the street. it was missing the foot pedal, without which it won't work. i made my own switch box. sounds fantastic.

7 inches are great. they're cheap to get pressed up. get your tracks mastered for vinyl. and check the terms and conditions for test pressings and who pays if you're not happy with the pressing. pressing records is the easy bit -- selling them is the hard bit as getting distribution can be difficult...

a few caps are 63v, the rest are less than 48v. i've replaced a few of them. they don't seem to have been damaged.

i'll replace the op amps. that's cheap and easy.

Blowing Up Stuff

I just finished a project (a roland tb303 clone from oakley) and accidentally fed it with 48v instad of 24v. the midi and LEDs work fine, but no sound. No caps blew and no parts show any obvious damage. the PSU seems to be fine. I'm working my way through the schematic taking voltage readings and it...

that's a nice idea. a piano is sitting on the side of the road just down the hill. think it'll have to wait till i build proper stairs to the attic. mmm. maybe even build it in to the wasted area just above the eves.

i have a subscription to 'make'. it's great little magazine.

there some nice bakelite knobs there.

i carry a screwdriver wherever i go and strip off any nice knobs i come across or buy cheap old gear just for the knobs. although it's hard to get a full set to fit a project.
